google streamer is honestly pretty garbage, they really dropped the ball
old processor, not as much support, doubled the price from the chromecast,
like WTF google?
Yeah, once again, Google releases an underpowered device and charges flagship prices.

That streamer needed to have the latest tensor processor, period. Then it can stay relevant for 5+ years easily. Instead we have a "22% faster" processor which is unbelievably disappointing for how long it's been. Some of us use our Google TVs for GeForce Now and we need a bit of power to keep out the local bottlenecks.

The CCWGTV is basically useless for GFN even though you can technically run it.

the specs have been released

they took away the chromecast and are trying to be an appletv, smart home hub, etc
I have an pre-2017 shield (that I love). This is the first I've heard of the new Google streamer. My question is, how do the specs of this shield compare to the new google streamer? I'm not in a rush but I will upgrade eventually. I'm just hoping Nvidia will release a new shield sooner rather than later.

I like to call myself the original shield tv fanatic. Then I picked up an Apple TV. I compared them side by side with strict bias favoring the shield. My apple tvs are connected. I can't remember where I put my shields.
Interesting. Mind explaining why in more detail? I have the Shield, some older Roku 4Ks, and an older AppleTV but primarily use the Shield due to its wider format support.

Best deal ever was $150 for the shield pro. Too bad the stand is permanently out of stock. I'm surprised they don't make a new one by now. Obviously people want a chromecast/fire stick with some compute power.

Bought one of these for my home theatre 3.5 years ago, loved it and I figured I'd get the new version when it comes out for my main TV.... That never happened. Finally caved last month during prime day.

Wish I would've just bought it 3.5 years ago.

This has, by far, the best performance of any Android TV device currently available despite having a processor that dates to 2015.

It's getting outdated in other ways, though. It doesn't support the AV1 codec. And it's barely getting software updates anymore. The last update was over a year ago and that was a "hotfix."

Nvidia is making so many bazillions off of AI that I don't think they care to support this anymore, or release a new one.

ITT: People who don't own the 2019 version saying it's not good.

It's great. It has no competition with everything it can do. Other devices may work well for others, not for everyone.

Bought one a year ago. Yes, it is very expensive, but it works very well. Have a Samsung S90C which has so-so upscaling, but a beautiful panel. This fits the bill for old content and you can do other things with it like play games if you want since it is android.

I wish Nvidia had any business case to update the specs and codec capabilities on the shield.

Instead I picked up a Tivo Stream 4k slickdeal a couple of years ago and it's been great. It's almost as good as the shield, and I think I only paid $30 for it. Video performance beats the smart apps on my Vizio, but my only complaint is being limited to a single remote. The remote itself is great, but it only allows one to be connected to it.

Same here... this coming from an Apple-hating Android user here

The lack of HDR support for Youtube videos is a big problem for me.

Good unit, but Nvidia really needs to put a new model out already with a better remote and all codecs supported.
They are so into making GPU's for AI projects there's probably 1 engineer left on this product.

Coincidence that it drops after the Google streamer was announced?
You'd have to be out of your mind to buy new Google hardware. Best case scenario you get a full refund when they stop supporting it in 7 months
