the people downvoting me are the kinda people who use trekking poles on 2mi loop 'easy' trails, while carrying a 3 course meal to recoup the 200 calories they burned.

If you're not packing it full/heavy, a chest strap doesn't matter too much imo. I've hiked through the rockies (9mi/day) with a cheap packable backpack that I threw a water bladder in.

This actually looks competitive to the Patagonia Field Smith bag which has been posted here a lot lately. But it definitely is not one of their regular staples and is more of an experimental product.
My guess is that it's a minimalist design. These are supposed to be simplistic bags. Check out the Patagonia one if you want an idea.
