The tile tracker's lack of any meaningful network for relaying location nor any ultra wide band support for precision locating means it is objectively not better.

I'm sorry to hear you had issues with your AirTags, but it sounds like in your case, either the AirTags simply never passed close enough to any iPhones to relay location or someone physically removed the battery.
The real issue with these is that Apple duped naive users into believing they provide any security at all.
These are not cellular GPS devices that can operate independently. They require an Apple device to leverage tracking capability, piggybacking on other users' data and GPS signals.
All it takes for them to be useless is to get them away from iPhones or for a savvy iPhone user to disable GPS, which is probably how they failed in that guy's examples.
Also, if you take a car to a mechanic for anything beyond basic maintenance, expect them to drive it around.

There seems to be a debate going on if a user can disable it without touching it. The answer is yes. But, does it matter? The fact they're made aware of it is bad enough.
"To disable the AirTag, set of AirPods, Find My network accessory, or compatible Bluetooth location-sharing device and stop it from sharing its location, tap Instructions to Disable and follow the onscreen steps. After the AirTag, set of AirPods, Find My network accessory, or compatible Bluetooth location-tracking device is disabled, the owner can no longer get updates on its current location. You will also no longer receive any unwanted tracking alerts for this item."

So these are still awesome but they are not going to help you in case of theft. Unfortunate side effect of stopping them from being used for stalking.
Thing is, stalkers will just use something else. So it's an unfortunate gimp. But in the case of something not being stolen, and a decent human being is near your stuff, they work great.
I doubt the Samsung tags work any differently. Their smaller network hurts things a lot anyway. I plan on putting one of these in my luggage and on my dog's collar. It's better than nothing.
If anyone has a better option that is as trackable, but doesn't let thieves know, let us know. I'd be interested. Otherwise it's tough to beat Apple's network for these.
