If their servers go down, all the remote features go with them.

The thermostat will nag you that the internet is down, especially if you use one of the displays that shows outside temperature.

To make matters worse, go do a search for "nest gen 3 wifi chip fried" or "nest thermostat W5 error". I've been through 3 thermostats because of the WiFi controller literally dying and each time was a pain to resolve.

It was also fun finding out that the refurbished model they sent back each time only came with a 3 month warranty.

Overall, not pleased with the Nest team that Google absorbed. They should probably clean house at this point and start from scratch.
Boy, the "Slickdeals" have become quite pathetic over the years. About time for a competing site/app.

Tried replacing the battery in mine, didn't work so bought another at HD. Rather have a fresh one anyway.

Got this at Lincoln Park store in Chicago. One other gentleman who came to take the same helped me for an additional discount from Comed via instant online rebate. Thank you.

I was able to use my military discount on the Nest Thermostat with 2 temperature sensors. The total for my came to $144. After my local rebate this upgrade should only cost me a $100. Nice find. Up one.

I've always thought these looked so nice. Does Google render these useless after awhile, or can you use them simply as a basic temperature controller forever?
Bump, same question…and can you opt to keep them "dumb" and not connected to local utility companies? I just want to set temperatures remotely from time to time. No fancy programs or guessing when I'm home (wife and I both WFH, it's pretty predictable).

They'll keep working. My gen2 is still 100% functional. Had it since 2015.

I am quite fed up with the "smart algorithms " features of nest. Would have loved if it was a dumb unit with app features

I wish I could use something like this but I have dogs. Maybe when I install a mini split just for my master.

It occasionally spams you with notifications on the unit. It's annoying. I'd probably go with Honeywell if I am ever in the market again. Renders the display useless until you exit out of it.

Our utility company, Eversource, has an instant rebate on these for $26. I just bought one. So far so good.

Unfortunately, FatWallet shut down several years ago.
