Update for CA folks… Lowe's lists "rebate available" in the app. Click on the details of the INSTANT rebate. This thermostat is listed on the list of qualifying smart thermostats for the program. It will bring you to Golden State Rebates website, which handles rebate programs for PG&E and the big utilities in down in southern CA.
Click on the $75.00 rebate program for smart thermostats.
Check to see if your physical Lowe's store is on the giant list. Pretty sure all the brick and mortar Lowe's in CA are there, but double check. If your store is on the list and has one of these in stock at the clearance price, it becomes free…
The rebate is for $75 off, but it cannot exceed the value of the purchase price (no cash back lol).
Let's say your California store has them for 100 bucks. Well, if you qualify through your utility, you will get a coupon with a barcode to scan inside the store for $75 off.
Then enter your address and select your utility from the dropdown. You must enter the name that shows on your bill. Enter the captcha thing and click verify if I qualify.
I'm with PG&E and I got a little message that said I qualified.
I added the coupon to my cart, checked out, and the instant rebate popped up with my info, and instructions for the Lowe's purchase at the register.
Now, I learned of the rebate while on the Lowe's app in the parking lot after I made my purchase. I went through the above process, got the one time use barcode, and went back into the store with one of the two thermostats I purchased. I told the lady at the returns counter I had just purchased two of these things and realized one of them was eligible for instant rebate. So I wanted to return one and re-purchase it using the instant rebate. She looked at me like I was crazy, but said let's give it a shot.
She did the return for one of my thermostats. Then she initiated a purchase and scanned the thermostat. She tried scanning the coupon barcode after the thermostat, but that did not work. So she did a fresh transaction and scanned the rebate barcode on my phone FIRST. She looked puzzled at the screen and then scanned the thermostat. My total came to 0.00. No tax. I think this is my first post on this site so I can't attach any pictures but my receipt shows the thermostat with a quantity of one and a discount of 24.92. Subtotal, tax and total all came to zero. I needed two of these thermostats because my house is dual zone, but I ended up with two of these things for 24.92 and only paid tax on one (again because the program only allows one device per qualified address with a qualified utility company in CA.)
I know my deal definitely narrows down who is eligible, but I still wanted to share the information with the other California folks so they can get a deal as well.
So yes, you have to do about 5 to 10 minutes of checking your eligibility at the store you are at, but the barcode is delivered instantly if you qualify. If you got to this point, just make sure you have your barcode scanned first or the rebate won't do its thing with Lowe's register. Finally, Home Depot physical stores are also included, but I haven't bothered to check how much Home Depot is charging for these things.
Super finally, my app showed full price, but sure enough the clearance price was listed at 24.92 in store.
Enjoy!
