This supports Dolby Vision while the PS5 and Xbox don't.

How much of a difference is this in Picture and sound quality over something like a PS five or an Xbox series X?

This was $319.99 new from b&h photo during Black Friday season maybe a year ago. Its a good chance it will go lower in November. I'm holding.

Unfortunately, OP did not. Price at Amazon dropped at least twice yesterday and might have gone lower absent the SD effect. Perhaps it still will but otherwise may have to wait for BF.

It has two hdmis which are nice. I use one to go directly to my sound system to get dts for certain titles
You don't need to do that if your receiver does hd audio pass through

Just looking at my purchase history, I bought it from BB back in 2019 for $399. I haven't used it as much as I would like to but the times I have used it, it has been excellent. I have it paired with a 77" LG C9.

What's the lowest this has ever been?
I love my physical media, just added another 15 titles. And I use the XBSX most of the time. I have the 85" Sony from Costco for $2000, and it's great. Will I notice improved PQ on this thing?
I can't imagine not, being almost the same price for a dedicated movie player, but you never know. At least, I never do 😂
Got mine from Amazon.com for around $321 before tax second week of Dec 2022.

This is arguably the best 4k Player out there for a "reasonable price" biggest difference as stated earlier is 420 has HDR 10+ this has Dolby Vision. For those that have TVs that support Dolby Vision it's a nice improvement but not end of the world if you don't have it. Order of quality is HDR10, HDR10+ then Dolby Vision best. if your TV does not support Dolby Vision. then pass on this and go for the less expensive 450 or 420.

What if my TV doesn't support DV? Will I benefit from this over a PS5/XSX?

IMHO, If your TV does not support DV and/or HDR-10+, save the money and upgrade your TV

I believe if all you are doing is playing 4k discs on a newish 4k TV, the 450 will be the same audio/video quality as this 820 at almost a 3rd the price.
