Loius reviews crimp connectors where cheaper softer metal may not hold, this is for a heat shrink tube that has low temp solder, not much to go wrong here as long as you don't use in a high current application like a solar panel feed where it could heat up above the solder melting point but that would apply to any brand.

There are many other kits is priced including one 200 piece for $7 ( can't link due to low seller reviews )

You are comparing apples and watermelons. These are not crimp connectors. They are solder connectors that fuse the wires together when a heat gun is applied. In addition the shrink wrap tube contains glue that melts and seals the connection from moisture. The sealed sleeve then serves as a strain relief for the soldered connection. The design is brilliant and it works great. It is superior in every way to a crimp connector.

These things would be very convenient if they worked as well as you'd hope. The shrink wrap melts before the solder liquefies. You have to heat it up very slowly for a long period of time if you want to get a nice solder joint. Consequently it's faster to just solder from the roll and cut your own length of shrink wrap.

They look nice and hold okay when they work but you'll ruin 1 for every 2 good joints, reducing their convenience factor.

This one seems like a better deal.

That is one of the larger kits I was referring to but didn't link because whenever I link to something like that with a low reseller review count the mods delete my post and I get a warning note.

Yes, the shrink wrap has a lower temp, so when you continue to heat and the solder melts it squeezes the solder into the joint filling the voids rather then the traditional flux cleaned wire sucking up the solder.
I have never had one go bad using either a heat gun or just a lighter, but maybe I have been lucky so far.

^ this

I have terrible luck with these. I always end up with the plastic melted open and the solder still unmelted.

These work terrible with a lighter.

Absolutely flawed

The concept is good, but what's happened is cheap substitutes have flooded the market. Ideally the shrink tube portion would be a fluoropolymer that melts around 500F. Solder actually melts at a relatively low temp - more like 360F. So provided you're using the proper technique, the solder should melt WELL before the tube melts, but all that also assumes the product is high quality to begin with.

These style of fusings work well in certain applications but not all. I wouldn't use them in critical application (unless my hand was forced) or high voltage/current. A great use case would be rewiring a trailer, or perhaps some automotive applications with striated wire. In-home use there are basically no cases where I'd use this, especially with 120V+. Maybe low voltage wiring (landscaping).

If you're melting these, you need a finer air directing nozzle on your heat gun. Gun on low a few inches away pointed directly at the solder section on the middle first. Once you get solder melt, pull the gun back and oscillate to fully seal and shrink the rest. I can set multiple of these before the soldering iron even gets to temp and never roasted one. I only wish they'd give you more of the tiny ones.

This manufacturer has a different data showing Fluoroelastomer as their highest temperature product and requires nowhere near 500°F

That's because POLYOLEFIN refers to mostly PP or HDPE, not fluoropolymer. See the last few entries there? PVDF and "Fluoroelastomer" - their ratings are much higher.

Note what I said though - the other person was complaining about the shrink tube portion MELTING. To get it to shrink, you just need to heat it up to its Tg (glass transition temp), not its melting point, although there will be a correlation (e.g. polyolefins will have lower melt temp AND Tg than fluoropolymers).

Exactly my point of the post, there are a variety of materials, not necessarily some cheap substitutes that don't perform properly, thanks
I did edit to make clear that this manufacturer highest temp is for Fluoroelastomer at 347° as a comparison to your assertion that 500° is ideal
