Comparing this vs https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/985647 Dell Inspiron for $479, (upgrade to i7/16GB/Xe Graphics) for college freshman., which is better?

HP has better CPU, 300nit touchscreen vs. 250nit non-touch, and backlit KB. The Dell's 4GB more memory will not likely be noticed. Xe graphics is the one actual upgrade that might be appreciated by a casual gamer.

Thank you so much for the feed back. I ordered this HP over Dell. This is for my son who already has a desktop that he plays games on so he just needs one for his school work.

What's the upgradability of RAM (# of slots, soldered….) & SSD (# of slots, capacity). Thanks!

That's the norm with HP.
I purchased a medium tier laptop and the case looked like something out of the dollar store.

I would take slow RAM that is upgradeable over faster RAM that is nonupgradeable and that the people in the market for this laptop will never notice the difference.

The battery size is small, so this is more a desktop replacement than a travel laptop (although it's relatively light for a 15" laptop).
