The rule of pixel is never buy on launch. Always black Friday. They consistently make launch seem like a good deal and undercut it on BF by $200. I write this on my P7, while planning an upgrade in November

FYI - for those ordering from the Google Store, I came across the promo code "supersafshort" on a Reddit thread that gives an extra $50 off. Just pulled the trigger on a P9PXL (ew that acronym) and got the discount successfully - stacked with 10% Google One discount / trade in / $200 credit.

EDIT to add that "supersaf" as of 8.20 is a valid code (original supersafshort seems expired)

Increase price by $100 again.
Back then:
Pixel 7 $599
Pixel 8 $699
Pixel 9 $799
Why?

For me the best deal was ordering the Pixel 9 Pro XL from T-Mobile and trading-in my current P6 Pro. I received a $500 trade in credit at T-Mobile ($50 better than google).. The T-Mobile price for the Pixel 9 Pro XL is $999 with 512 gig memory (obsidian black only). Rather than paying all upfront I will pay over the next 24 months and then the phone will be unlocked from the T-Mobile network. The $500 trade-in credit is applied over those 24 months so I am paying $500 at the end of two years (plus tax and phone activation fee of $35, which I would be charged regardless).

I don't have a real use for many of the extras that are included when purchasing direct from Google, including the $200 credit since I don't plan on a watch upgrade, tablet, etc.

I am eligible for the 10% id.me discount code if purchasing on the google webstore but it still wouldn't be worth it over the T-Mobile offer.

I have purchased phones from T-Mobile before with deals like this and all have gone smoothly.

Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB is $1200. That's a lot of dough for a Pixel considering Pixels typically don't retain their values for a longer period of time.
Main reason I get in quick... 600 for my pixel 8 pro...plus 350 for accesories

200$ Google Store credit expires after a year. Better to wait for the actual discount on the phone.
This is great information, thank you. I know I wouldn't find $200 of stuff to buy within only a year. .. poor business practice. I've had Steam credit for years that I haven't used.

It's at the bottom of the checkout page in the fine print.
Good info, thanks. Super important to consider that they will take away your $200 within a year.

Do they though? I mean if I'm getting $450 for my Pixel 6 Pro 3 years later I think it's clear value still exists. I never sell my phones, only trade them.

I've greatly enjoyed the 6 Pro. I tried the iPhone that year (moved on from Samsung bc of bloat and farking Bixby, gave iPhone 13 Pro a shot for 2 weeks, then landed on Pixel 6 Pro), found far too many functions missing, janky mobile connection, and my lord the keyboard is absolutely trash on iPhones.
iPhone 12 gives $799 trade in for Pixel 9.
iPhone 12 Pro gives $999 for Pixel 9 Pro.
iPhone 13 Pro Max gives $1099 for Pixel 9 XL.
And here you say Pixel 6 Pro has great value. It's not even close to be on par with basic iPhone 12 (Released on Oct 2020), 1 whole year older than Pixel 6 Pro.

Looking for some external wisdom and advice: I'm on the fence on getting the pixel 9 pro XL and trade in the ultra s23, is it worth it?

Everything I've read about it shows that it's not a huge upgrade and I was waiting for the s25 ultra. But I'm seeing a bunch of people here doing that trade in, so am I missing something? Worth mentioning that I have a galaxy watch and ring which apparently will work fine with the pixel but won't have the full functionality as with a Samsung phone.

I really appreciate any help with this dilemma that I have since I don't want to miss if the upgrade is worth it. Thanks

The biggest improvements for the 9th gen is the build quality and embedded AI features. But Pixel's biggest weakness has always been its CPU (which got a 20 percent improvement in this 4th gen Tensor processor). Next year, Google will abandon Samsung's design and go all in with its own design and will be fabricated by TSMC. That should hopefully catch up to Apple and Snapdragon in terms of performance and heat. That is the only thing that is keeping me on the fence about getting the Pixel 9 Pro. But then again, next year's CPU will be a first generation product and not well refined. So I guess if you need a phone now, get it now. If you can wait, then wait.

I would imagine it's people who aren't married to Samsung and their UI, don't like the bloatware, don't really care about the zoom lens, and the warranty is expired. If your S23 is in good shape, you really like the camera and UI, still have warranty or don't care that it's expired, it seems like a waste of time and effort to trade the S23 in for a pixel 9 pro xl.
