If you're looking to buy a P9, definitely do so at Best Buy over Google store:

1. BB GC has more flexibility vs. Google Store credit
2. BB will deduct taxes off your trade = more saving
3. Trade instore = no headache vs. send in trade to Google's 3rd party
4. Easy return/replacement should there be some defects. Google CS is horrid.

Check the trade in values against the Google Store. Best Buy has a better trade in for the 6a but Google a better one for the 8.

Though a $100 Best Buy gift card is better for most people than a $100 Google Store credit, so that's a factor too.

Just picked up my pixel 9 today looking at my credit card transaction I realized that Best Buy never charged my card prior to pick up therefore no refund is needed. I got the phone completely free. Not sure if this is a single error or anyone else have similar situation because it was clearly stated on the app that full amount will be charged until pick up. But my card was never charged.
Same here in NorCal. Charge dropped off a couple days ago, and just went in and traded in my 12. The rep said she had just done one and at first said they would return the one I bought, then get a gift card to apply to purchasing it again, but I told her that my order details showed the full trade-in value of $145+$654. She seemed puzzled, but then said the trade-in was complete and never did the return/rebuy thing that she mentioned. I then rec'd the $100 gift card in my email, and nothing was ever charged to my credit card. So in effect, a 100% trade-in credit incl. tax.

FWIW, my IP12 device had lots of scratches on the front glass, but sides and rear were in pretty good condition. Also, she only turned it on and flipped it over a couple times, that's it. I didn't see her enter the IMEI or anything like that.

Edit: looking at my order online, it does show a balance of $13.41 for tax on $145, but I don't see anything pending on my CC yet.

Exactly the same story for me .. successful trade in and charge on my account .
Only catch is my store had no idea whether I will get 799 or 145 back .. but PayPal and updates order invoice reflected it in my account .. Case closed
Yeah, a lot of the reps have absolutely no idea how this promo works, so it's probably best not to even bring it up and confuse things. As long as the pre-order online shows the proper promo amount, then that's how it's processed. If there's any concern, people can reload the online receipt before they even leave the store … it seems to update there quickly, showing the correct charge info.

How carefully do they inspext the trade in. Do they check for exact model #?
I was asked to show my ID twice. As far as the trade-in, they checked that it turned on and they were able to reach some screen that let them verify various things about it.

You are right .. online updated receipt and refund on the account happens instantly instead of verification through rep

I selected iPhone 12 5G 64GB Black T-Mobile MGF43LL/A when pre-ordering. The metro phone that I got is MGH63LL/A. Is it going to be a problem when I trade it in at the store? Any inputs how to handle this situation are greatly appreciated.

Anyone have any weirdness with this at the store? I did the purchase/trade-in on the website last week, when trade-in values for iPhone 12s towards P9 was $799.99. I have my email and the website lists it as such. I went into the store today to do the transaction and the guy inspects my phone and hands me a sheet a paper saying the trade-in value is $145 (which is the base iPhone 12 price before the promo). I told them that amount was wrong, showed him the email and said it should be $799.99. He ensured me that I would get a $799.99 refund on my order since that's what the order listed, it just doesn't show up on the trade-in document since it's a promotion.

Whole thing felt weird. I asked for a receipt and he told me it would be emailed to me. An our later, no receipt and bestbuy.com still lists the item as "ready for pick-up" even though I have it.

Should I be concerned? Not too worried since I have a paper trail - can just go in and resolve if needed. Sort of annoying though.

Edit: Seeing people had similar "issues" as me above, makes me feel at ease. I should have read first.

Yeah it def seems a bit sktchy, but that's exactly how it works. You'll get the full credit if you were actually charged, but most of us seem to have had the pending charge dropped so there wasn't really anything to refund anyway. My order details show a charge for sales tax of $13.41 on the value of $145, but nothing has been charged to my card yet.

I just picked my Pixel9 with no issue.

Just picked up my Pixel 9 in exchange for iPhone 12. For those wondering and had similar questions as me around condition/specs of trade-in phone, here is my experience :

1. I bought a phone in acceptable condition from Amazon for 189+taxes. It arrived in pretty beat up condition esp. the body.

https://imgur.com/gallery/hppPofM

2. The store rep did not check a single thing on the phone condition. I had a backup phone in Good condition ready in case the rep rejected my phone in Acceptable condition. All he took was IMEI, checked my ID and took a fingerprint.

3. Phone carrier does not matter but looks like the color does. My store rep did not care about anything.

4. Overall process was smooth and the net price was 0. The $100 BB credit was available immediately.

3.5 hours later, no receipt, no gift card and the status of the purchase on bestbuy.com is still "ready for pick-up". Pretty odd but trying not to worry.

I received the gift card and shipping tracking information by email yesterday. But I have not received it yet.
I checked the order status on the Best Buy website; it shows 'Arriving Today,'
The UPS tracking number shows, 'UPS doesn't have possession of the package yet.'
Has anyone else experienced this?"

How are people saying zero taxes? My BB receipt does show tax included. I am in CA.

In-store trade or mail? If you do the trade in-store they should adjust taxes once you do the trade. Some people have reported no tax while others have reported being taxed on the P9 cost minus the promo amount ($149 for an iP 12 -> P9 trade, for instance). Not sure how it works for mail-in trades though.
