I doubt MC refurbish laptops themselves. These are usually certified refurbs from the manufacturer.
So yeah, IMHO should be good.

I saw a video of repairing 6 of these laptops. All of them had similar issues due to hot air damaging the resister on the MB.

Their website states that you only get a 90 days. Was that 1y warranty through HP/extra?

Microcenter HP refurbs are done by HP. I purchased a refurb HP Spectre a few months ago and it looked new. If I recall, it was packaged in a different box than the original, but it was packaged like new. It works great.

I bought this exact model from MC earlier this summer for the crossed out price. It's solid, but beware that standalone battery life is about 2-3 hours at best, and upgrading the SSD might be a challenge. My TL;DR story on upgrading was that the heatsink m.2 screw was over-tightened by the factory, and I ended up stripping the screw trying to remove it. Eventually, I resorted to using an exacto knife sized cutting tool to do this [imgur.com]. Def not an easy upgrade, but I guess as is all things that come from the factory YMMV.
