Here's a detailed review of the light: https://zeroair.org/2024/08/09/so...mp-review/

Here's the summary from the review: "Sofirn is good at making headlamps, so it's no surprise that this one is good. I really like the warm white emitters – 5000K and high CRI seems like a nice sweet spot. It's nice that the red output gets the full host of (5) output levels. The user interface is simple and familiar and USB-C charging works great. All of that for around $35; this is a deal!"

Pros: Good build quality

Low cost

Nice implementation of red emitters

Neutral emitters have all 5 modes

High CRI, neutral emitters

Cons:

Low CRI main emitter

Doesn't hit output claims (actual output 1570 lumens on turbo)

Usual morning... waking up, buying a flashlight, brushing teeth...

Thanks OP (sort of). Recently got the dual-head-light HS20 which I love. This one seems similar, just all emitters in a single head, and adding some red light which I don't use much. Good price though incl battery, too hard to resist.

Added a bike holder to get past the free shipping threshold, something I actually needed/wanted anyway.

Love headlights except for the fact that if you're out in the woods/backyard insects start to kamikaze your face.

Ha, happy to be of service! I only had 1 other headlight so this was a fantastic option to expand the arsenal!

Just in case there is a nature disaster and all my other flashlights fail, but I still hate using a single button to switch everything

What's the weight with battery? Is this too heavy for a kid to wear on his head camping?

Funny enough, a red light should mitigate the bug dive bombing problem significantly. Most insects can't see red light, and those that can tend to be out during the day when you're unlikely to need a headlamp.

About 120 grams with a battery, so a little over 4 ounces. Completely fine for a kid to wear on their head, weighs less than a helmet. I have a convoy h3 headlamp using 21700 battery and it's a little annoying to wear on bike rides because of the extra weight. A headlamp like this using 18650 is a really nice compromise between weight and still hours of runtime.

So you're saying that these can double as providing a protein source in survivalist situations?

Why can't flashlight companies make a shoulder strap? Having a flashlight on your forehead is just goofy.

Got a similar one during last deal. My wife laughed until the power went out from Beryl.

Good point... if you don't care about CRI. Wink

I'm a volunteer EMT and bought a similar one from them during the last deal to use on calls.

It's a good flashlight, and I'm generally happy with it.

Having said that, I wish it clipped into the head strap, or otherwise were easier to insert and remove. For practical use, you have to decide whether you want to use it as a headlamp or a regular flashlight; it's too annoying to convert from one to the other, and takes too long in the field. I end up having the Sofirn on my belt, and carrying a separate small headlamp in a cargo pocket.

Also, the battery life isn't especially long, and it takes a long time to charge. This hasn't really been a problem for me (I just plug it in overnight), but I'm surprised how quickly it starts blinking red to signal a recharge is necessary.

Overall, it's still far better than the cheap flashlight I used to have on my belt.

there are quite a few non-sofirn headlights on sale, does anyone have any experience/opinion on those?

I've done streamlight, zebra, wurkkos, and sofirn. The Wurkkos and Sofirn are right at the sweet spot of price & quality for me. Some of the off Amazon brand lights I've tried aren't worth the $5 or $10 saved for me.
