I just finished repainting every interior wall of my house with Sherwin Williams Emerald. I also read all those Reddit threads recommending Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. Purchased it all during 40 & 50% off sales. Never used it before, previously only ever painted with various home depot and lowes purchases. If you put a little work into prepping your walls with a quick sanding, two coats of Emerald is silky smooth and looks fantastic. Use a good quality roller and brush. I used Purdy Marathon rollers. Take your time. My results are impressive and I'm super picky. I think i read that Sherwin just increased their base prices but i was able to get most of my paint right around $50 with coupons. I wouldn't pay the $90+ regular price because it goes on sale so frequently. Just buy the untinted paint during a sale if you don't know the exact color you want and you can bring it back and they'll tint it for free.
SW Duration is ~ $55/gal with coupon or ~$45/gal with a business account.

Many years ago, I bought paint from a big box store to paint my interior. I bought Glidden and swore to never use it again.

When it came time to repaint the interior of my current house, I used SW Duration. So easy to apply and looks fantastic.

I'm a cheap ass from way back but paint is one thing I never cheap out on anymore.
Even with 40% off you still end up with at least $50 a gallon. It is just overpriced in the first place for people who decide to paint themselves and do not really care about the price since painter is very expensive.

Which is all you need to know to suspect CR is getting kickbacks from those other paints. Emerald truly is a top 3 paint.
Yeah, that plus them giving high ratings to Samsung & LG appliances.

Stay away from their stain it doesn't last at all. At least the stuff they used on our deck sure didn't.
You probably didn't prep the deck well enough.

I always used behr and had no issues. One time I was in a hurry and paid extra for SW because it was guaranteed to cover in one coat… it failed miserably over a very light color going to a medium gray. Never again.

Went back to behr for new house and got tons of compliments on it.

Yeah agreed. Honestly no matter what brand of paint you buy, take some time and prep your walls. For me that was patching up any holes, dents or uneven areas with drywall mud, then sand those areas smooth, then give the entire wall a quick sanding to knock down any imperfections from previous paint jobs. I'm no professional but i do a lot of research on Reddit and YouTube. I'm legitimately impressed with the results.

Also one last thing to note, the previous owners of my house must have been drunk while painting because they slopped paint all over the window and door trim, and did a horrible job of edging the ceiling. I had to replace all the trim moulding. Nothing screams amateur painter worse than that. Take your time, use a good brush (i used purdy clearcut elite and a wooster shortcut) and get a nice edge along your ceiling and trim. No need for tape or special tools in most places. Makes your paint job look so much more professional.
Then your previous comments don't hold any water.

YouTube and Reddit. One is paid shills, the others are raged filled political clowns' forums. Good luck getting useful information most of the time.

One comment you made needs to be highlighted; and that's putting a little work into preparing the surface.
I'm not a professional painter but with the right prep and quality paint, my results look professional
Aagree, all about the prep work otherwise just wasting the Benjamins.

even with an account/discounts/coupons, the paint is still expensive....
Emerald is good stuff though. Won't lie I've tried most other brands and grades now I just wait for emerald and bite bullet on 40% off it's just less stress in end and it's easy to cover surfaces with and good quality

The more solids in a paint, generally the better quality. Look up MSDS sheets and you'll see some HD and Lowes paints have more solids than most equivalent SW and BM paints at half the cost. I use glidden diamond for all interior paints. Contractors like to use SW due to it being a dedicated paint store where they can be in and out quickly with a line of credit. They also get way better pricing than advertised based on the amounts of paint they buy and they can charge the customer the retail price of the paint to help with profits. Not saying it's not good paint, but it's mostly marketing on the consumer side.

if it's not too much to ask, can you recommend me some interior and exterior paints from lowes?

The general consensus (at least on reddit) is you get what you pay for with paint and don't cheap out. But even with the coupon SW is like 3 times as expensive as the stuff from the big box store.
I really want to try this stuff out but being an SDer just makes it hard to justify.
That's essentially the truth, but it's all in context of the job. I just painted my bedroom with Behr and needed 2 gallons (1.5 used) to do it. I probably would have only needed one with SW. So more expensive per gallon but cheaper overall project cost. But this deal wasn't available so it wouldn't be worth a full price SW gallon.
I buy SW on deals like these but only when I need quality. Like my living room ceiling, very visible and not an easy paint job. I didn't want to do 3 coats and needed it to look good. Likewise, if I painted the exterior of my house I wouldn't cheap out with Behr quality paint. But interior bedrooms and such, I usually buy "cheap" paint because it's good enough.

Just want to weigh in and point out that their trim enamel paints are very good for projects where you need extra durability. I painted a whole bunch of built-ins with the stuff so that they would stand up to the abuse of having things constantly set on top and dragged across them. So if you're looking to paint any sort of cabinets, baseboards, or shelves that will get heavy wear, it's definitely worth looking into SW for that purpose. Those paints cost significantly more normally. - The difference in quality between your typical store brand paints for painting drywall might not be worth the price difference, but if you have a special need for high-end paint it's definitely worth it.

You can get better pricing every day any day, just by going into a Sherwin Williams, telling them you own a dozen and a half rental properties, and they will gladly open up a commercial account for you

For those going back and forth about Emerald paint and if it's good. It is good paint. It's not the best. If you want better paint, and still want to stick with a national mainstream brand, Benjamin Moore has much better paints. Then you can go even higher with regional brands.

Before you open the velcro wallet too wide though, ask yourself what the goal is that you're trying to achieve with your re-paint. Are you looking for a paint that will last 20 years? Is this for a bathroom? Are you just looking for a re-paint knowing that in 5 or 6 years your kid will be out of the house and you will be repainting the room again to be repurposed as a guest room or home office? Is the repaint for a children's playroom? A den? Answers to these questions should drive what you should be spending.

FWIW, Behr tops all of Consumer Reports' paint ratings. Sherwin is good but not the best, and especially for the normal price is overpriced for what you get.

If you're looking at wood stains, Sherwin is actually not good at all.
Consumer Reports is a bit biased. Back when I used to work for Behr, they paid a good amount to be in the Top 3. SW has always been a market leader. Not sure about their Stain category as I never ran into homeowners or contractors using it in Southern California.
