For anyone wondering, this is 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is a darn good budget steel, IMHO. It's far better than the 3Cr, 4Cr or 7Cr steels. Kershaw does a good heat treatment on this particular steel and it should serve the average knife user quite well. You will need to know how to sharpen, since it won't stay sharp forever, but it is very stainless (still clean and oil your knife occasionally) and fairly durable. And this is Kershaw's Speedsafe assisted opening, which works well and will snap that big old blade out with authority. And the Kershaw framelock knives I have are beast that lock up tight.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the cleaver knives, but that's personal taste. I've got a similar Gerber Flatiron and it just doesn't make it into my pocket carry rotation at all, again, for personal taste reason. Nothing wrong with this style of blade if it floats your boat. At $30, this is an dedent deal, IMHO, so getting my upvote.

The Terran is going for about 20 bucks on Amazon, same steel assisted open drop point blade a little over 3 inch.

agree, both 8Cr13 and 440c are good in rust resistance, decent edge retention and easy maintenance, but for this folding cleaver, 30 is a little expensive and I think it's too bulky as a folding pocket knife. I've a gerber fixed blade mini cleaver, with 7Cr17 it's slightly worse than 8Cr13 or 440c in terms of edge retention, but with its small profile and easy sharpening, it's my goto camping knife for food prep, kindling, and feather stick making

I used to say 8Cr13MoV isn't worth over $20, but then inflation, ya' know.

yeah pretty much everything inflated for the past three years, but for this particular model I would only pay 20 for it, maybe part of the cost has to do with the branding of the mother company KAI, I don't mean kershaw is no good in knives making, and I think kershaw makes better knives than gerber. I own a few kershaw and KAI kitchen knives but this particular model is not a real cleaver, its short blade height makes it difficult to chop, if you know how to chop garlic with a real cleaver or jap nikiri
