It's a personal taste, but I now buy couches where you can replace the cushions easily. High quality cushions are considered 1.8lb density, and they last 2-4 years depending on usage. So even high quality cushions don't last that long. Much cheaper to buy a decent quality couch for around 1k and replace the cushions every 3 years for $150. Replacing cushions can make any mid side couch last at least a decade before you need to reupholster the sides (a lot more expensive).
