Or for all my Autohotkey friends, how about a knob that sends Tab when turned to the right and Shift-Tab when turned to the left, effectively allowing you to use a dial to navigate through a multi-field web form? Or for "tab left" (ctrl+shift+tab) and "tab right" (ctrl+tab) in you favorite browser so you can whiz across your 153 open browser tabs? Or for "find previous/next" in your word processor? Or for rotating a page view clockwise or counterclockwise? Or controlling zoom in/out levels or the windows magnifier? It's like having multiple mouse wheels but for all sorts of different functions.

Where are all my macro junkies? Don't tell me I'm all alone in this world. If you haven't hooked a macro up to a knob, you're really missing out. The typical MIDI controls for volume, treble, bass, pan, etc. are great but too obvious... Can you imagine hooking a knob up to RGB and brightness/contrast levels as you edit your photos?

Since my post went FP, some of the more useful stuff NOT in the Amazon description got hidden...

For the experts: The knobs on this device are endless encoders (no min/max stops at extreme left/right), and they have detents (tactile gradations you can feel as you turn the knob; i.e. not smooth sweep). The knobs can also be depressed/clicked, activating a secondary function (most often a "return to normal levels" or "mute toggle" or the like). The knobs also have illuminated collars, which can be set up to show current levels, which is a big differentiator relative to the competitive products. Can be used for DAWs right out of the box, but also can be set up like a much cheaper version of a Loupedeck (which are $200+) for more general macros, assuming you are familiar with scripting languages that can listen for MIDI events, or if you use specialized middleware/drivers. For example, here is a photographer who customized his [diyphotography.net] for use with Adobe Lightroom to edit photos.

This looks like it would be outstanding for use with AutoHotkey scripts and a great price to boot. Thanks for posting!

Ha! Seriously, there's no faster way to fling through the open tabs in Chrome or Firefox. There's the keystrokes Ctrl-Tab (right one tab) and Ctrl-Shift-Tab (left one tab) or Ctrl-1 (first tab) or Ctrl-9 (last tab) and Ctrl 2 through 8 for tabs 2-8. If you've got 50+ open, there's no better way than zipping through them by spinning a knob with detents (or the mouse wheel, if you have the right extension). These macro functions do take some setup though for this device. You need Autohotkey for Windows or Keyboard Maestro (I think) for Mac and a bit of coding/scripting knowledge.

I know. The 90's called... they want your cable back. That's the sore point, in my opinion. I've got a few of these, and it doesn't really affect the usage as it's not charging and only sending small MIDI data packets. If you're really considering one, I'd get a right angle cable for it, since the one it ships with is straight (less than optimal for that svelte 90s desktop look).

Did you get the Razer Stream Controller for $199 [amazon.com]? How much was it on sale? I have the Loupedeck and the Razer seems very similar. How does it work for you? Did you look at Loupedeck too? LD software isn't as good as I thought it might be, so I was wondering about Razer's. I would say the Behringer's knobs are a little more well-spaced, tapered, but equally premium feeling to the Loupedeck... and 2 more of them, plus the fader and of course only $69. I picked up a second one for my main machine just for the extra knobs.

Does it use Loupedeck software or is it a private label software? It looks identical to the Loupedeck Live sitting in front of me on my desk.
