Just received mine (took 2 weeks). The 2 big drawbacks: loud and hot

I installed the new BIOS (1.18) that I believe has the microcode fix. Intel has not admitted the HX chips have the bug, but they do. After BIOS update, CPU used as much as 1.44V while gaming and CPU reached 100 celsius and throttled. Not good.

If I disable turboboost, the laptop quiets down and runs cooler, but game performance suffers. I mainly play Fortnite, which is not that demanding, so the loss is not great.

I bought this to replace a G7 which I have had for 6 years. I'm pleased with the G16 except for the fan noise and throttling issue. The Cherry keyboard is fantastic. Lack of a keypad not an issue for me. The screen is bright and beautiful. The build quality seems very solid just like the G7.

I'm vaquely thinking of returning this because of the heat/throttling issues. I will test it out more in the next couple weeks.

It is not Dell's fault. But I will avoid any computers with i7&i9 13th, 14th generations. As others said, the intel 'bug' is a serious issue. It seems that the issue triggers w/ heating, which will be an issue with a gaming machine, probably worse with a laptop. Until they find a permanent fix, I am holding off.

I strongly recommend checking youtube for Gamer's Nexus, Level 1 Techs, etc coverage of intel 13th and 14th gen issues before even thinking of buying one of these. There is very thorough documentation of just how bad the problems are with these CPUs

don't know why it's heavier than other laptops with similar configurations. And it does not have a number pad.

Intel 13th gen 😬 I was just talking to a friend who has a similar cpu and his laptop was experiencing some of the fiasco issues that's plaguing these chips 😥 I had him do the microcode update but I think it's too late. And the problem with the laptop chips is there is no way to fix them once they degrade. It's permanent and I doubt the laptop manufacturer will stand behind it because it would require a motherboard change.

I'd be 100% in for this if it had a NUMPAD.

Looks like an awesome deal, any caveats? or shall I wait for a better deal?

How is this one compared to the lenovo slim 5

For $200 less you're getting a faster CPU, double the storage (1 tb SSD) and better refresh rate screen with 240hz. G16 is definitely better deal.

Oh the complaints on here to talk themselves out of buying this. For this price there isn't a better deal.

From what I understand about Chinese branded network equipment, phone and software, I would buy any of them. Lenovo is a Chinese brand so I will pass any price point.

Any recommendations for a similar gaming laptop without the processor issues?

If it were a pound lighter it would be just right. But they wouldn't be able to sell the lower end Alienware models if the G series was just as good.
