What a strange listing. It looks as though it is a single plate, but way down in the listing it says sold in pairs or sets. It also says item weight is 2 lbs, but shipping weight is 22.68 Kgs. Must be the Carbonaro effect.

Anyone know by any chance if these have bad offgassing and smell like the Everyday Essentials ones? Amazon reviews indicate it's likely, but this is also very cheap for a pair of 25s.

Safe bet yes. Wiping them down, running a fan on them and/or leaving them outside (not in direct sunlight) resolved smell pretty easily for me on the EE ones

Leave it outside for a few days. Smell goes away.

If I use the 45 lb bumpers to make contact with the ground, can I use my traditional metal plates along with these for deadlifts without ruining either?

I've never mixed both types before but from what I read and common sense I think if you're not dropping the plates it wont matter much, your iron plates might add some extra wear on the bumpers but probably wont cause any functional damage. If you are dropping the weights it would probably do some damage from plates clanking together and extra weight being supported only by the bumper plate if its the larges plate on the bar.

The description says it's virgin rubber. aren't virgin rubbers supposed to not have a smell?

Rule of thumb is you could mix and match, provided the amount of weight from metal plates is less than the amount of bumper plates. Like a 70/30 ratio. So you could use the 45 pound bumpers, then add a 10 pound iron, and another 5 pound iron to the end. Maybe even a single 25 pound iron. But anymore than that and you will wear out the rubber much faster. Also, if the bumpers have cheap hubs in them (like the Signature Fitness or BalanceFrom), you will blow out the hubs really quick doing that.

So, you can use 45 bumper, and add a couple 10's, 5's, maybe a 25 iron and you are okay. But if you use 45 pound bumpers, then add a couple 45 pound iron plates, you will destroy the bumpers really fast.

I mix 25lb bumper with 35lb metal during deadlift. It works fine for me. Waiting for 35lb number to go on sale. Till then will be using metal one

Virgin rubber has less smell than recycled/crumb rubber, but virgin rubber still smells.

Smell, from most to least:

Recycled Tire/Crumb Rubber > Virgin Rubber > Urethane Rubber.

But Virgin Rubber and Urethane Rubber smell will go away fairly quick, especially if you clean them with a product like "Simple Green" and let them air out a few days outside.

It is Recycled Tire/Crumb Rubber, like what is used in Stall Mats, that takes a while to get the smell out.

Has anyone ever used GymPin? Would this fit on that for a functional trainer?

Are these actually just rebranded Everyday Essentials though? I went to the listing and it said I already bought them, so they're reusing the listing from EE.
