I've been happy with a micro led from 2019. That being said, the power supply died on it after a year randomly and I thought it was done for. After a $40 replacement part and like 15 minutes I had it working again. So yeah, build quality is questionable but the parts are also easy to get and replace.

Micro led in 2019? Not 2030?

True, and I might end up with the TCL, but waiting to see what the UX black Friday pricing will be vs. PQ differences. A 98" TV is a long term investment - tough to buy before at least knowing what the current gen competitors offer

One day I shall make the leap to a behemoth like this, my problem is that I'm constantly upgrading to newer display tech, and have more TVs then I know what to do with already, and they actually cost money to get rid of. I don't want to get stuck with a 200lb chunk of ewaste a couple years from now when they have much better displays of this size for half the price. $4k is a good deal if you need it now and don't upgrade often and tend to keep your TVs for many, many years. They've come a long way in the past 20 years. I remember selling the first flat panel plasmas for $16,000 for a 37" and over $20,000 for the 42" models.

The issue was that this has the same number of "zones" or whatever that the 85" does, right? So a larger screen without any additional zones to support it?

(At least, that's why I was going to opt for the 85")

Yes, 5000+ zones, next year's model will exceed 10,000 zones, then the year after will introduce wide viewing angle VA panel

That Hisense is not a Mini LED, so it's not going to look nearly as good. And the TCL QM851 is their top of the line tv this year and much better overall. Is that worth 2000 dollars more...well that depends on if you want a mid range or top tv. Maybe the QM8 will drop to $2999 on Black Friday and I can definitely say it would be worth a grand more.

Depends. They put more love into their flagships. I still have their first mini led "8 series" flagship from 2018. Never had an issue with plenty of hours. Stand on it is solid metal and hefty. Frame/bezel is also metal.
