I've said it before but Casio calculators absolutely smoke TI calculators in usability, cost, technology, and features. The only reason anyone buys the TIs is the teachers who never learned to use a better calculator because TI was the only option 40 years ago when they were in school. TI almost has a pointless artificial monopoly and they are milking it

These Calculators are approved for use on the AP Calculus test and I would say are more intuitive to use than the Ti-84. Half the price for the same functionality is pretty good. Also you don't need an old teacher who only knows how to use one calculator to help. Kids these days can figure it out from YouTube or Google.

Eh, I used a casio all through AP Calculus back in middle and high school in the early 2000s. It was what I could afford and kids can figure it out. $43 vs > $100 matters to a lot to some families.

My TI-36X Pro and TI-89 Titanium could not have possibly served me better during my Mechanical Engineering degree. Casio calculators are cool too, I wanted to use them but they were actually behind in features at the time. The newest fx-991CW looks pretty sweet though. Why be so fussy and limit yourself?

TI has some great marketing hook-ups with schools and teachers.

They are very entrenched.

Thumbs down. Real nerds use HP calculators. RPN 4 life
came here to say just this. RPN! i just gave my son my HP 49g and was proud when he wanted to leave it in RPN mode.

also, this:
https://xkcd.com/768/

it's an embarrassment that these don't have HD screens at this price point. my Fire tablet has millions of times the compute power and pixels, and was $25.

Yes, the ti 83's that everyone uses in schools are expensive if you buy them new, but if you go to ebay, you can find people selling used ones for less than $30 used , which includes the shipping in that price that are working.

Still rocking my Ti-92+ but there are apps that can run a TI ROM on your phone which is what I've been doing for the past decade if I need a fancy calculator since most of the app based ones are terrible.

Love the comments on this thread. Informed vs misinformed.

My child needs to be spoonfed and can't figure out how to use a calculator so I will get the exact one their teacher uses - ti83 circa y2k. Also funny these calculators being used for advanced HS students.
