Can AppleCare be purchased for these?
Considering the model is 3 years old, and even Woot only includes a 90 day warranty, that's gonna be a negative.

How does the M1 Max hold up to the newer processors? Is it comparable to M2 Pro or M3 Pro? I know they've made some funny changes with the number of P and E cores on the newer chips..
It's a way more powerful GPU than the M2 Pro and M3 Pro. It also has eight performance cores and two power-efficiency cores; all of the newer processors have six performance cores and four power-efficiency cores. If you do anything with audio production using programs like Logic Pro and Ableton Live. None of those applications will utilize the efficiency cores with the exception of the DAW Reaper. So if you're using this for audio production; the M1 series are the best you can get. If you're upgrading from an M1 Pro/Max to M2 Pro and M3 Pro; it's actually a downgrade if this is your use case; you would be losing performance.

As for your typical user I don't think you'll see any noticeable real-world difference between this and M2 Pro and M3 Pro. As long as Apple supports this and doesn't end OS support prematurely (they shouldn't unless they are greedy) because the M-series architecture is so similar.

$2100 is a lot of money considering there's only a 90 day warranty. Goodluck 😂

$2000+ with a meager 90day warranty? You kidding me?

FYI, in the "discuss this deal" comments on Woot for this MacBook, a Woot helper gives a link to the Woot item condition glossary.

This MacBook is listed on Woot as New Open Box, which the Woot item condition glossary says is as follows:

"New Open Box - This product has never been used. The product has been opened to add, remove, or replace items such as warranty cards, user manuals, or accessories. The item may come in a retail box but could ship in a plain box. New Open Box items come backed by a manufacturer or vendor warranty OR our very own Woot! Warranty"

Also, someone asks about AppleCare, and a Woot helper says:

"This comes with a 90 day Woot Warranty and we cannot guarantee that Apple Care will be able to be used."

So... maybe there's a chance! My fingers (and toes) are all crossed 🤗 I'll report back once i receive it to let everyone know.

8TB internal storage space is insane just cause how expensive it is to upgrade the system to that. lol

External drive PITA for moving around laptop, as has been said by others.

Now, if I could just figure out how to deal with my iCloud that also the 2 TB limit, life would be swell Smilie

And yes, I know I can upgrade to the 6 TB level, but that's $30 bucks a month. Can you say ouch?!?

Any good suggestions from you helpful SDers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all 🤗

Does not feel like a great deal ?
Your post may have been marked unhelpful, but I totally agree with you.
This is not a good deal.
With the M3 coming out, this is mid at best.
[edit]
8TB??
Wait a minute, are we sure that's not a typo?
I also remember seeing a post here that a similar Apple laptop had a ridiculous amount of RAM, like 98 or something.
Haven't seen that one in a while either.
I may need to recall my post here. We'll see.

This would have been a whopping $5699 in 2021 at retail when you factor in that $2200 8TB SSD upgrade. We know how much Apple values their drive space upgrades .
Apple can value it at whatever absurd number they choose. Doesn't mean consumers will value it accordingly, which is why these are now on fire sale.

A 64GB RAM would be much more beneficial than 8TB for most people

How do the speakers and screen compare to the newer MBP's?

2TB (much less 8TB) is overkill for 99.9% of people, but there are some people who really need it.

In addition to people working with lots of raw video or audio files, programmers and data scientists often work with lots of huge files and/or Docker images, virtual machines, etc.

You can use an external drive, and in the past I've just velcro'd an external SSD to my laptop lid lol... this is not a bad solution, honestly.

But, that has drawbacks. Especially if you are a professional who is often on the go. You lose a USB port. Things bump into it and detach the drive and possibly damage your USB port. Etc. And it won't be quite as fast as internal.
