Use case is older car without steering controls where phone is hooked into 3.5mm audio jack, or bike.
Explanation about the brittleness - When you first put it on it's extremely tight. Try to stretch it too far to undo what you did and it could start some rips near the square hole. I'm still using mine despite the small rip as it still holds. But before the rip, the click was extremely stable / solid. After the rip, it loses that stability but it still holds. If you want to have a stable control button that doesn't move, as long as you put it on initially without doing too many re-adjustments you will be fine. If your steering wheel is thinner than mine then re-adjustments may be more forgiving.
Control Scheme: is Volume up and down is a wheel spin. Skip is double press. Previous is triple press. Pause play is single press
Android Auto: Does not work with android auto... Even the physical volume buttons on the phone don't work to control volume when connected to android auto. Works great if it's 3.5mm jack or Bluetooth without android auto. Wish Google would fix this!
