Not necessarily. It really depends on your seating distance. If you're not seated far from the screen, 8k upscaling can be beneficial on a screen this size.

If I sat that close I would get a smaller TV. I hate IMAX and if forced to go to a theater I always sit on the back row which is still too close.

For those that care the 24 made a couple improvements: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u8-u8n and will eventually be this price if you can wait (quite a while since it's not really available yet.) if you can't wait this is a tremendous TV: (https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u8-u8k for this item's review).

Hisense hasn't released a 100" version of the U8N this year.
