They've been around a long time, part of Wolverine for quite a while and available everywhere. I distribute to grocery stores and Merrell seems to be about the most popular brand among people in my industry (for those of us who don't need safety toes) aside from the silly people that wear running shoes. High quality brand. Their Moab line is great - supportive, very comfortable, and durable, while being fairly lightweight. Previously I wore slip-resistant Keens for work, but Moabs give me enough traction and are far lighter than what I was used to.
I didn't think they'd be ideal for a lot of serious hiking, but a Frito-Lay driver I know said his Army unit permitted them in the mountains of Afghanistan because the terrain and standard issue boots combined to kill everyone's ankles. They loved the lighter weight and relative flexibility I guess. If they made something like a Moab hiker with a true slip-resistant sole and without a safety toe I'd pay stupid prices for those.

I had to delete my military ID.me account discounts since it only gave me the 30% off from the original price not the sales price...so it was like $11 more...thanks for the two finger discount Wolverine!

I do wear a Merrell brand safety boot right now with the older composite toe at job site. Might give this a try.
