The thread title emphasizes that it is for PC. Wanted to note that it is also available for Mac.

A new Marathon is being developed. I ran into someone on the project.

Bungie released a hype video about it with a bunch of staff interviews a couple years ago and an "announcement trailer" about a year ago. Apparently it's a PVP extraction shooter and you play a "runner." The reaction so far has been really negative. Even if it turns out okay, seems like it's missing the hallmarks of the Marathon games.
At least the old ones are out there for free. Infinity was a little hard to stick with but I really liked the first two. The series did such unique things for the time. Big fan.

Yep, the new Marathon has nothing to do with the old games. My high school's computer lab used to have Marathon 2 network sessions every Friday back in late 90's early 2000's for multiplayer. It was definitely one of the best games. I bought it when it came to xbox live but the multiplayer has been dead for years.

Good memories of LAN multiplayer games with this. The map editor was great and even a talentless schmuck like me could make a fun one. I wish that map editor was ported to modern systems as well.

I played Marathon 2/Infinity multiplayer back in the 90s. The network coding was terrible and games would desync after about 5 minutes. It got exhausting needing to constantly reconnect. However Marathon 2 single player was pretty iconic. I didn't care for the first level of Infinity and never went beyond it

Welcome to 2023 when that was announced. They are hoping for 2025 but with recent layoffs we don't know the future of the project. It's a looter shooter and not story based like the old games or Halo... so I'm not sure how I feel about it.
