I'm having a hard time figuring out what size real these come with. I'm guessing that 7040 means 7' rod and 4000 size reel? But not sure. Any help is appreciated.

Yes that is supposed to be correct. So INSHD17030ML-1 would be 7' medium light (ML)rod with a 3000 reel.
Have the HD 200/300 (7020/30)... They seem nicer than they are. I had an issue with my 300 right after 2 uses, But the people at West Marine are always great, swapped not even need a receipt, they even have me a drag knob for the 200, kid lost... They are not worth the $80, But $40 I paid they are good to go and for the service WM gives...
--Getting 2 to of the 9' surf for the kids, not sure, but for $20, be great for them and any issue they always take care of me.
Never heard of this brand. I Googled "blacktip". 😳
It's their in house brand. I bought two of these the last time it came around. I'll try to find my post. I wrote out all the details from the rod, reel, and tags but that that's the most info I could find
If someone can help, please I would appreciate it.
I haven't fished since my teens, now my little boy wants to go fishing, is this something I can buy for us and be ready to go, or not. Which ones would you guys suggest. This will more likely be a couple times a year thing, so not really looking for anything expensive unless he really enjoys it then I will invest.

For the price it's not a bad choice but 7' is on the big side of your kid depending how big he is. A smaller rod will be better to teach him on. Can't go wrong with a cheap Uglystick combo or find a yard sale where they have older better quality rods.

I purchased 2 of the Inshore Plus last time they were on sale. I like to buy cheap rod/reels on sale as spares to use myself or let somebody borrow one. I've yet to put them to use but they do come ready-to-go with monofilament already on the reel. It also comes with a nice little tackle box with a pretty solid selection. They are two-piece rods which makes it easier to travel with. I'd say they're perfect for your situation.

Both are two piece
Inshore plus: definitely worth the 45 for the rod and tackle. You probably have a better 40 reel tho (1 bearing labeled for 10/12/14 lb test)
Comes with a tackle kit that's pretty robust compared to like a Walmart Shakespeare kit
8 4inch curly grubs
1 .5 ounce spoon
2 saltwater jigs
1 ready rig
1 double drop rig
15 2/0 bait hooks
15 6/0 circle hooks
10 1/0 barrel swivels with snaps
2 1ounce sinkers
Rod is 2 piece 10-25 lb medium
The stealth spinner is a 2 piece medium 8-15 lb with a 30 reel 8/10/12 8+1 bearings 5.2:1 ratio
Both come pre spooled but no indication of what's on it
