Please note it may be illegal for you to transmit on ham radio. Look into it. Maybe don't be using this for your family road trips with annoying kids. Ham radio operators are oddly protective of their radio frequencies.

If you're looking at radios for purposes of emergencies (at which point licensing won't matter), I would suggest you get a model with USB-C rechargeable battery or replaceable battery.

If I were to buy these, it would be for emergency use. In an emergency, legalities would not matter to me as it would be about saving lives.

Good point about the batteries.
