These things spew huge amounts of black smoke. Personally I'd much rather pay more for a bundle of real wood from ACE or the local gas station.

My brother inlaw tried the normal yellow one and was amazed. I may get this for him for Xmas if they don't expire.

Going glamp, ahem, camping this weekend. This should be a little cheaper than just firewood bundles from local stores. I'm still looking for a cheaper provider of pre-cut, but nothing so far. With that said I do have some wood I can split from an apple tree I felled a couple of years ago. Just need to find the time!

I will say ours have been great. Once they burn past the wrapper burn nice and clean. On our second box of the summer. Maybe different batches different results?

Possibly! I kept the ones I bought over summer for emergencies anyway so at least I get peace of mind knowing I'll be able to stay warm in a nuclear winter

I think their product pictures would open them up to massive lawsuits if you couldnt cook over it. The image of the people have them making marshmallows and the product description says "Roast" as one of the uses.

I went and found the product on the duraflame site: https://www.duraflame.com/product...r-firelogs and it says specifically "
The perfect firelogs for the great outdoors, and specially designed and tested for roasting campfire foods."

I love these for camping. All the fire, none of the effort. Ibotta often has cash back on these as well.

Also random but FYI don't use these if you or your kids have a nut allergy. They have compressed bits of nut shells and aren't labeled as such. An allergic little girl nearly died from breathing the smoke in earlier this year.

If that's the case I'm close to stores where I can buy a few bundles. It's also supposed to rain for part of the weekend. I wonder if these logs will handle the wet weather better. Normally when we camp with the cub scouts we have so much wood (kept under a tarp) that keeping the fire going in even a downpour isn't going too difficult. With far less wood I'm worried.

That's really important to know. My nephew, who will be camping with us, has a nut allergy.

Edit: nothing on the box or on the wrapper of each log about this. Just that it's made from wax, wood and cellulose. Anyway, we took a risk and my nut-allergic nephew had no issues making s'mores.

These things burn pretty hot from my experience - I'm sure they'd be OK with some moisture. The benefit of real wood though is you can dry wood out with said fire prior to using it. Maybe handy to have both at this price.
