Looks like a solid deal on a good tool.
Easy to use and can remove a large amount at once if needed or quite small (1/264" if I remember correctly).

I've had this thing for 4 years, well two of them. The first one inexplicably just stopped working one day. In the middle of use, it just stopped, then pulling the trigger never did anything ever again. The replacement "part" available was only sold as an assembly of basically the entire internals, buying a new one was cheaper.

When it works it's convenient but nothing stand out. Cordless is nice for this kind of tool. The depth adjustment doesn't seem to stay constant over the life of the tool, even when carefully setting the blades with the provided setup guide. I either set it to full bore for very rough work or the lowest setting if precision matters even a little, it's almost impossible to dial it in how you'd like somewhere in the middle (predictably at least, trial and error is always a thing).
Meh tool. The good is the price, its cordless, and uses batteries you may already have. Otherwise, get a corded Makita if you want a good power hand planer. Haven't tried the Milwaukee.

I'd have to agree--bought one for my father-in-law and it was a bit of a disappointment. Worked for what we needed (removing a lot of material from a project) but it wasn't a precision instrument -- couldn't really dial it in the way I'd expected. Given my experience, I'm not looking to add one to my shop--just don't think I'd get any use from it, and it'd just sit on the shelf...

This feels like a tool that would work better corded. I may be wrong, but not doing much planing work away from an outlet.

I'll pass on this tool. I'm in the 20VMAX camp; however, a dust bag is not included and according to reviews depth of cut adjustment is poor.

I consider this one of my best Dewalt tools. The depth adjustment works very well and it has a ton of power. I have used this for doors, flattening boards, resurfacing rough cut lumber etc. I haven't been able to bog this down. Plus blades are cheap and easy to replace. You would not want a dust collection with this as it would fill immediately. Just use outside and blast away.

You wouldn't typically get a dust bag with any planer. They make large shavings and it would fill up in a half second. Generally a vac should be attached, which will help the tool perform better as it will clear chips faster so that it doesn't clog. Or just use it outside and make a mess.
