A little rich for my blood but I've been low key wanting to pick up an electronic drum kit to learn to play on.

I've played other instruments and have decent rhythm, but my only real drum kit experience is playing the Rock Band drums.

Would this be good to get a 3rd grader who is interested in learning drums? They will join band when eligible in 2 years, but interested in getting started on their own sooner.

A little bit low end for this use case, I'd spring for something nicer, what if your kid actually started playing in a few years??

This is overkill for a 3rd grader. But to each his own. My one kid started on a Roland set… but really wanted to play more on an acoustic set. They're no substitute for an acoustic set, but they're pretty awesome nonetheless.

Real Drummer here. I would suggest going on craigslist or the app OfferUp and looking for a used cheap kit most times you can find something within a three to $400 range that might need maybe cymbal or a bass drum pedal. Keep in mind that these are acoustic kits which is more traditional, but also make a lot of noise. Prepare yourself. And if it were my kid, I would teach him to learn bass guitar. Drummers are easy to find bass players not so much.

That's because bass guitarists are usually regular guitarists who can't hack it and will admit it.
I found a roland TD-17k on Craigslist for $800. More than enough for anyone to listen on and I'd recommend it over an acoustic for anyone who has kids without a soundproof room for them. I barely even play my acoustic set anymore
