Not that it has any technology which makes it obsolete. If anything that's the selling point here. An evergreen simple two channel amp with good circuitry, low noise, that drives speakers well, dead simple eq/balance fader, and a bypass button to skip all that circuitry if you don't need it. with some

It's been an A+ Amp for me, a modern alternative to hunting for some 1970s grail that needs capacitor and electronic work. + some more modern connection types. in my case running 24bit 192khz optical input and some analog sources.

The remote is trash but physical buttons are great. The USB doesn't output clean power sadly.

I think this was originally released in 2014-15 and I think it's also being discontinued.

Coupon code appears to only work with the black one, not silver.

Why choose an amplifier over same power receiver of the same price?

Could be multiple scenario.
1. One does not want home theater but want stereo for things like music listening only

2. Receiver does not have sufficient power to run full set of home theater speakers but has pre-out feature. Then you hook up pre-out of receiver to amplifier like this to provide more amp power to front left/right speakers

So the idea is that this is "higher quality", less circuitry for video signals, crosstalk, noise, etc. The idea this has a single purpose, put out clear, clean stereo sound for music lovers. A receiver is generally more a "jack of all trades". Look at the pictures for this line, the right and left channel hookups (if memory serves) are on opposite ends of the back panel. They isolate the amps for each channel to each physical side.

I'm no audiophile (Just like things to sound good) and even have a EE undergrad degree (aka I get how far DACs and components have come from a very technical level). I'm currently using an old 5.1 receiver as my computer's desktop amp and while I'm sure I could never pass a blind A and B test, even I succumb to the alour of something "better" and want this, haha.

For what it's worth, I'm also a fan of a lot of equipment Yamaha has put out over the years and feel you can't go wrong with them whether it's a musical instrument, home theater receiver, or boat motor.

Random question, but anyone know if sub output works for B speakers as well if switched?

Pick up and old 70s Yamaha integrated amplifier for half the price. Damping factor will alleviate the need for a sub.
