Also this monitor has DP 1.2 which is a bit of a deal breaker

i started with an lg ultragear va panel from wal mart. that looked a lot worse than the acer. so i returned it i got this figuring an ips panel would fix the issues. well, i still think that old acer with no hdr, 60hz etc looked better. but compared to this, id say theyre close enough i quickly got used to this (if the LG with VA panel looked 30% worse, this probably only looked 10% worse) and kept it.
i dont really know how the acer looked better, probably a higher quality panel (even though it pales in every spec, rgb% probably not even in the same league etc) and the punchy tuning.
but like i said this is close enough, has way better controls etc, and 120hz support if i ever use it. and hdr i guess though i dont really know how you'd use that. maybe its on all the time idk.
the dp 1.2 thing the guy mentioned above idk what that means. i use hdmi anyway.
the stand on this is cool in that you can adjust it about any way. whereas the acer was fixed low. but i just move this down to where the acer was anyway and leave it so really no difference in all practical terms the way i use it. also one weird annoyance, the stand on this covers the vesa mount holes, so i cant screw my beelink mini pc to the back like i could with my acer, which had like a dedicated stand on the bottom that did not occupy the vesa holes. such an oddball difference that you can only find out by using things. probably not a huge deal, for now i just set the beelink on the desk and i might figure something out later. also the stand base on this is big and heavy piece of solid metal that kind of juts out and occupies more of my desk. but again not really a problem per se, but slightly worse than the acer set up in my specific circumstance.
also i will say it gets crazy bright subjectively. iirc i had to turn it way below 50% bright to go easy on my eyes. and has ips/glow and or lightbleed idk the difference but its said all ips have that. my acer had it pretty bad but you dont really notice it in use.
what you can get for 230 bucks nowdays is honestly pretty crazy though. if you're like me 1440p 32" is basically the sweet spot of resolution, screen size etc and i cant see really any other solutions anytime soon. 1440p/32 is likely where i'll stay indefinitely.

VA panel fwiw. This is IPS.
I hesitate to call one better or worse since in big TV's VA is considered>IPS. But in monitors it seems to be the reverse. And my recent experience bore that out for me. But it's likely also YMMV. Some may prefer either.
VA supposedly has better contrast which in theory is a really big deal. But subjectively the LG Ultra gear VA panel I had recently seemed to have less contrast not more due to everything feeling more dull. The Ultra Gear seemed softer, but I could see some claiming it is easier on the eyes. I'm assuming some of this extends to all VA vs IPS debates. I'm assuming also if youre coming from VA, then another VA will seem fine because youre not used to anything else.
Both of my newer monitors (IPS and VA) had more of a blue tint to them than my Acer fwiw., but the Ultragear VA had the most blue tint. Maybe that could be changed by messing with the color settings but idk, I never will.
edit: the rtings of the g55 is pretty poor i'd stay away. notable bad ratings for hdr (5.1) and response time (5.1). seems to be a bottom barrel model. worst of all for me only hitting ~250 nits brightness in sdr (300 in hdr)
