BUYER BEWARE - Idk if it was just my Olive Garden but the one I went to charged for the protein for every refill brought out for the pasta bowl - I'm calling to check if this was a mistake or not but just in case - BUYER BEWARE

Edit/Update: Aight it's only for the grilled chicken so I got a refund - so if you get the grilled chicken they will charge you for every refill

I worked for Olive Garden for 7 years. Some things they do microwave, like steamed veggies and stuff. Pasta sauce is made from scratch in house in large batches then vacuum sealed and refrigerated or frozen (I can't remember which). Pasta is partially cooked and kept warm then boiled for a few minutes and tossed with sauce heated in a pan. Sausage are deep fried. Pretty sure the meatballs are frozen and baked in sauce. Breaded chicken (chicken fritta) is also frozen. Breadstuffs are half baked from the factory(?) then baked in the oven for a few minutes at the restaurant and topped with butter and garlic salt when done. Soups are scratch made in house the same way the sauces are. Large batches then sealed and reheated in a water bath when needed. Steaks are grilled, chicken is grilled. Most fried things are frozen (think calamari, toasted ravioli, etc). I haven't worked there since 2013 so things may have changed since then but this is my past experience.

Additional note: As a server, I hated the NEPB. It got crazy busy, you had to do more for your tables cuz of the refills, and it was cheaper than the normal entrees so you almost always got tipped less. I've also experienced customers throwing up in the restroom between refills just so they could eat more. It's disgusting. If you do take advantage of this promo, be kind to your servers and wait staff. It sucks for them.

Read what they wrote. They said they were getting charged that PER refill, not the fact protein costs extra.

last time I went and got spaghetti I was very disappointed.

id rather buy 1 pound beef, 1 jar raos, 1 jar diced tomatoes, and some good noodles, all for like 8 bucks and have a ton, and I can make my own garlic toast that taste better.
You can't buy all that for $8.

From strictly a value stand point you may be right. Maybe. However quality, cost, and variety will vary across the United States, even across towns and cities. Sometimes you just want Olive Garden, and for what it is this seems to be a good deal in its own right. I wouldn't call this an apples to apples comparison.
You can't post this without the obligatory Times Square OG review. That column renewed my faith in America.

dude I just posted how to make your own spaghetti above for 8 dollars that taste way better.- granted I shop at Costco and sams club frequently so I buy these supplies often, and on sale even more so. so I have tons of these. but still.

4 dollars raos sauce
3dollar 1lb beef
91 cents spaghetti pack
81 cents canned diced tomatos (optional, but I love chunks of tomatoes in my sauce)

I also keep meatballs frozen in freezer so if im feeling extra festive, toss a few of those into the sauce simmer for extra meaty experience,. I keep meatballs on hand for meatball subs (12 buns at sams club is 5 bucks, sliced provolone cheese at sams club is cheap, and use a few spoon fulls of raos sauce on the meatballs and bun and broil melt the cheese)

easy cheap meal, and I keep buns frozen in freezer for late night from work meals.

maybe im just cheap, but I cannot justify 14-20 dollars for spaghetti from a place, and then have to pay tax, and tip on top, and my gf meal would easily double that. I cant see Olive Garden sticking around in another 10 years. brb 50-60 dollar spaghetti dinner out meal

and it didnt even taste good last time I went, we had gift cards from family. was disappointed.

I'd rather go to Golden Corral. Same quality for the same price, and all the meat you can eat.
$19.49 at my local GC for dinners. OG wins on price (nearly $4/person cheaper than GC). As for the meat ... OG is hardly fine dining but GC's "steak" is just awful. Roast Beef is OK at best. If all you care about is consuming as much protein as possible regardless of taste, GC is definitely the winner. However, if you want better tasting meat or better overall food, I would take OG all day. GC wins, of course, if you are talking about different kinds of food. Easier to please everyone at GC than it is at OG.

"I've also experienced customers throwing up in the restroom between refills just so they could eat more. It's disgusting."

This has been commonplace since the 1980s. Beefsteak Charlie's on Long Island used to put buckets in the bathrooms and also out in the main area in strategic places because so many people were throwing up all the time from the all you can eat salad bar, shrimp, beer and sangria that it would have to be cleaned up constantly by staff and they just decided to put buckets out preemptively to hedge the constant mess. Eventually, it got so out of control with puke everywhere all the time and the stink of puke waiting in the air from time to time that we decided never to go back there again and instead went to the Ground Round and Cookies to replace the all you can eat action.

I dont add cheese.............. but I do have parmesan oversized shaker in fridge, which is like 5-7 24oz Kraft grated bucks it will last an entire year, and I dont eat salad..................... ... what.

I do occasionally toss red chili flakes ontop of my spaghetti instead of cheese. I like some kick occasionally.

I have not ate a salad in probably 15 years. and yeah Costco and sams club sells those raos 2 jars pack for 8 or 8.50 often, its like 3 dollars off often, like every other time im there they have them on sale.

I personally never tried RAOS until like a year ago, and ever since, I decided raos + canned diced tomatoes together, with garlic salt and Italian seasoning is my go to, I love it. its so fricken good.

last time I went, I couldn't believe what I saw, a flat bed cart, with easily 200 jars of raos sauce, nothing but raos sauce, being wheeled out of Costco, couldn't believe someone would buy that many jars. must be a diner or something.

Getting unlimited pasta that doesn't include protein is not a deal, the protein is the only part of that meal that costs the restaurant money and it's the only part of the meal with any real nutritional value, save your $14
Considering that I could buy a pound of pasta for around a dollar in the store and boil that and add a $2-$3 pasta sauce, it would add up to getting multiple refills of pasta at OG for a fraction of the price. The meat is what gives it more value except that they charge you an additional premium for probably a couple ounces of meat!

Not a great deal if they charge $4,99 extra per protein refill. Can someone clarify if Olive Garden is charging per a protein refill?
