Yes, Linksys LN1301 is a terrific router with 2 GB RAM and 1 GB of flash. Insane! I thought my Netgear R7800 with 512 MB RAM is pretty good until the specs on LN301 blows the R7800 out of the water and is a tri-band router as well!

With wireless mesh (instructions below), it's one heck of a deal and blows DECO AX5000 deal out of the water, imho.

EDIT: UPDATED instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

set it as an Access Point.
1. Disable DHCP (optional)
2. Set the device to Bridge Mode under Connectivity tab
3. Connect cable from your router to a LAN port.
4. Get some nail polished and a round sticker to cover the annoying flashing right light.
5. Click the 'AC' at the bottom of the page to see the detail configurations of wifi.

So if I've just got a Netgear R6100 and don't do anything fancy at all with it, just run whatever phones and consoles and a powerline adapter for my PC, would this be a good backup to have around in case my current router just dies?

FWIW worth, when the piece of paper that passes for a manual couldn't tell me what a solid purple LED meant I looked it up on the linksys site (means ready for setup). It had a chat function and the tech was very helpful getting it configured. I suspect that since the spectrum modem requires the router to know the MAC, the spectrum supplied router had already been configured when they boxed the pair up.
Umm, did you open the worthless piece of paper?

I was able to switch to the other partition (cycling power multiple times) and boot back to stock firmware. I don't believe mine has HomeWRK firmware as the home page is shown below. If I want to give it another try, is this the correct image I should use?
Have you tried flashing this one: https://github.com/testuser7/open...actory.bin

Had a pair of these running a mesh network. The child node would frequently lose connection to the host, bricking all WiFi at child nodes. Power hitting them usually fixed it, but that was annoying. Especially having a kid that is on YouTube for extended amounts of time.
Ended up just buying a higher end router. No mesh network needed. But as a single access point, this worked great - especially at a $15 price point. The router I bought was probably 10x that.
Prior to trying the mesh route, I was running a repeater. And the speeds are significantly better when the mesh network is properly running than using repeaters. Plus this has physical ethernet ports to plug in devices like Hue hubs. And a decent repeater would cost as much as this hub.
Do note that I was running outdated firmware. My issues could have been addressed.
Slick deal.

An older AMD GPU is your best value for getting something that gets hot enough to cook your food.

sorry this is a super dumb question but will this do the old crappy protocols of wifi, because my security cameras dont work on the new stuff. my wifi router is really old, like probably 15 years, 2.4 ghz 802.11b/g. can this router do that type of wifi out of the box?

also why is this so cheap, is it because it's no longer supported and going to be some kind of security issue? for a regular person that wants a new wifi router because they noticed their old one being weird sometimes, is this good?

You are probably the first person on this thread that we can wholeheartedly recommend the router, without saying it depends xD. If your router only supports those modes this one will be an upgrade. The new ones are backwards compatible and will support those modes, and have 12 years of tech advancements for the cost of a meal.

Also yes, tech changes constantly. Manufacturer's can either provide you free upgrades or sell you next year's model. One of those makes more revenue. You will likely be able to get the 3rd party community support firmware by the time they end official support. Any router will be a huge upgrade over a 15 year old one.

the wifi should be backward compatible. just make sure you choose the correct encryption such as wpa-tkip or wep (not recommended)

I am still using the first-generation Google Mesh:
1 x downstairs
1 x upstairs
1 x in garage

I have ordered two of these Linksys routers, planning to setup as Mesh since I have quite a number of devices that are Wifi 6 compatible.

I have a lot of smart light/switches/camera/hub/lock in the same subnet at the moment, shall I keep my old Google mesh to run these IOT devices in a separate subnet?

Or should I dump the google mesh and get 1 more LN1301 for the garage, and then run the IOT devices in a separate subnet?
