Yes, Linksys LN1301 is a terrific router with 2 GB RAM and 1 GB of flash. Insane! I thought my Netgear R7800 with 512 MB RAM is pretty good until the specs on LN301 blows the R7800 out of the water and is a tri-band router as well!

With wireless mesh (instructions below), it's one heck of a deal and blows DECO AX5000 deal out of the water, imho.

EDIT: UPDATED instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

set it as an Access Point.
1. Disable DHCP (optional)
2. Set the device to Bridge Mode under Connectivity tab
3. Connect cable from your router to a LAN port.
4. Get some nail polished and a round sticker to cover the annoying flashing right light.
5. Click the 'AC' at the bottom of the page to see the detail configurations of wifi.

Is there a way to run pi-hole on this router as well?

It would remove my need for RPi as a separate device. Currently using RPi 3B just for pi-hole.
With openwrt you can run adguardhome

It can't hold a candle to my eeros, so you may want to not try fix it if it's not broken. And your 6 pros sound fancier than what I've got: I have eero pro (AC) and a set of 6+'s. I've only tried linksys stock though. But, with stock it's 10-15% slower than my AC eero pros, except an occasional super fast measurement. Then it's quite a bit slower than my eero 6+, again except occasionally when it decides to use the faster back haul 6ghz radio.
It uses a dynamic back haul set up so it decides on the fly which band to serve clients and connect to other nodes on. I turned off the slower 5ghz band all together to force the faster speed, so it's now faster than the AC eeros, but still 20% slower than the eero 6+ .
I got Eero. Returned it two days later. Absolutely awful coverage. Main hub on first floor. 20' away speed dropped over 30%. Not sure if I got a dud, but didn't get a replacement find out. Went back to my T-Mobile Asus router. Million times better.
I did just buy 3 of these to try and build a mesh network. Expecting better results than Eero.

Is that related to the paid AdGuard service?

It looks free to me, and looks very similar to pi-hole.

Also, thank you!!!!

so we have to buy 2 or 3 of these same device and set one as main and others as mesh nodes ? or are there dedicated mesh nodes

AdGuardHome is free. Works well for my needs. But is not open source like pi-hole and originates from a foreign country. I use it though anyway. It does what I need it to do. Switched from pi-hole a few years ago as I found it to have better, simpler user experience.

Openwrt is really open so it does work with pihole too in case that's what you want but it's mostly a dead project so people moved to adguardhome

Wait pi-hole is a dead project?

Yeah, I"m not sure I trust AdGuard due to it's Russian ties, unless it's fully open sourced. Even then it's questionable if there is intent to hide it, that we would find it to begin with. I guess, I'll do some research to see how I feel.

Do you happen to have any good sources discussing these potential issues?

Pihole is slow moving. Here is the repository for adguardhome: https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdGuardHome

There's also Technitium : https://technitium.com/dns/ . I've heard that running AdGuard on the router is not a great idea because of the storage requirements and constant writes it makes.

It will take a long time for your flash memory to wear off. You can also attach usb storage if you are worried about that.

Also my adguardhome writes to tmpfs so it's only in ram so no such risk. With 2gb ram you don't have to worry. My current openwrt router is Google OnHub with 1gb ram and quad core cpu. It works great with adguardhome and WireGuard both on same router plus multiple vlans

Question for those using a Mesh system with Spectrum:

I have a friend who purchased the TP-Link Deco 3 node AX20 mesh. He's had nothing but problems with it. It only sees 3 or 4 devices, If more try to connect the others will disconnect. When someone gets close to a node the cellphone will disconnect. He's on Spectrum and uses their modem and router(separate). Connects the Deco to the Spectrum router, the other 2 nodes are wireless. He states he can't disconnect the new upgraded Spectrum router without losing TV reception. Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion that might help.

Perhaps your environment was not a good match or placement was challenging. I tinkered a bit before i got it all fast and stable. It took making the right 6+ the parent device for the whole system to operate smoothly (I didn't get the 3 6+'s as a set, and 2 of them were refurbs). I also have T-Mobile home Internet, which is perfect for a mesh since you have flexibility where to place the wan link / parent, as someone earlier mentioned - in the center with children placed as if at the end of the spokes of the wheel. my tmo router stinks for range and overheats (had to get a USB fan for it to sop freezing), so I don't use it for anything other than wan link. it's annoying this model won't let me disable wifi.

I was planning to put the latest build of DD-WRT and try to configure as AP.
Anyone has instructions on how to set up as AP in DD-WRT or is straightforward?
