Its the opposite. Its possible to go back to stock after flashing dd-wrt. Its harder to do with open wrt.
Technically you can soft brick these. worse case you need access to the serial headers.

What? It's relatively easy to go back to stock from OpenWRT as well. It's similar set of commands, instead of writing to "linux/linux2", you will have to write it to "kernel/alt_kernel" depending on the partition that was booted to.

From OpenWRT, you can even do this but I haven't tested it and is posted on DD-WRT:

I have 3 running. Absolutely thrilled with performance so far. Wanting to get one more as it's a little spotty in the garage. But now they are out of stock. Hoping it pops back up in a week or so.

How did you brick it? I am thinking about going back to stock from dd-wrt. First I was going to try power cycling the router 3 times within 5 secs if that did not work then follow the "Revert to Factory Firmware" instructions on the dd-wrt installation page.

Got luci installed and now I can't figure out which wireless radio is the 5Ghz radio - 802.11ac/ax/n vs 802.11ac/ax/b/g/n . Appears to be 3 radios all turned off. Anyone have an idea which is the 5ghz and which is the 2.4ghz?

Got mine last night! Looks new and unused in a clean box with power supply and manual.

Not sure what I will do next as I have a high-end Linksys mesh 4 node Velop system.

One thing I noticed in the instructions was to disconnect your present router and reboot your modem. I tested a high-end WiFi 7 BE system and most of my issues were that I did not reset my modem as a second step.

My experience with Linksys over the long haul has been outstanding. In addition, I have had good results with Netgear and TP link in the distant past.

I flashed OpenWRT but noticed the router itself could not get internet connecting when directly connected to the modem during setup. I ended up plugging in the internet from the existing router and finished the setup via ssh, which luckily worked when the internet was coming from the existing router into the internet port...what gives?

I see in the Firewall settings of OpenWRT that "lan-->wan" is set to "accept" while "wan-->reject" is set to "reject" .....is this the culprit? I still haven't been able to resolve why the modem itself cannot supply internet into the internet port.
