Yep, put it directly in the drum and run an extended hot wash cycle. That's basically all these tablets are.

So I"m assuming that they're wanting twice a month cleaning since 24 tabs = 1 year supply. That's a lot of maintenance.

For front-washers that are modern check to see if there is a "self-cleaning" option. My Samsung has it and it will prompt right around the time i feel the washer is getting a bit stinky. From reading the instructions bleach can be added to the cycle. That + checking the filter at the bottom of it (which usually has some stray dog hairs in it) is all I need.

I'd suggest doing that for you all who are in a similar boat.

These are essentially citric acid tablets [useactive.com] (with a surfactant and some other stuff). So you could buy CA and use that. Here you're paying for convenience.
I'll stick with citric acid powder.

I have a Bosch 500 Series washer and dryer set for over ten years now. People keep talking about a filter on the washing machine but I don't quite see it.

Dryer lint filter I know about and that gets cleaned every load or two and vacuumed every other month or so. But not sure where the washing machine filter is and how to get to it.

Might just get some repair guy to come out and see. I haven't cleaned this supposed washing machine filter ever. And my clothes seem....fine?

I have the disposal cleaner from this company and I've been less than impressed. I don't know if it's just bad luck and I happen to have some food stuck or something but before I used these tabs, I was using a brand (Glisten maybe?) with cleaners in a pouch and it foamed great and stayed fresh for at least a month. I bought these tabs and I was using one every week. Probably won't try anything else from them.

A quick google search shows a big circle cover right on the bottom front of the unit. That's where your filter would be. Do a quick google search and there will be youtube videos on how to clean it out. I'm not surprised you haven't had any trouble in 10 years. They really don't get clogged very fast at all but it doesn't hurt to pop it open and give it a clean.

Pan the organizer says to just use vinegar and baking soda. I do this every 12-18 months. I do the same with my dishwasher.

I already use baking soda in every wash and vinegar in the fabric softener slot. It's not enough.

Just toss ice or citrus fruits (lemon, lime, orange) in your garbage disposal to clean it. Don't waste money on pods.

I have a Whirlpool now. Previous Samsung frontloader had the circle thing on the front. Easy to clean.

The whirlpool wasn't draining right. It would always fail with a code about something due to draining. NO filter on the front or no filter at all apparently, visually. Manual doesn't mention anything about it. Then I googled it and found a video where they found the filter INSIDE the unit. As in you have to pull it out, take about a dozen screws out of the back to access it. Same style filter, round cylinder you twist and pull out. Even more perplexing, there is CLEAR access from the left side of the machine if there was a hole (e.g. could reach your arm in to do it). Who the hell designed it that way?

Never cleaned a washing machine, is it even necessary? Because I'm lazy I even just toss my dirty clothes in washer and let them sit for days until filled completely for laundry day. Skip using laundry hampers or baskets l. Probably not sanitary lol but doing that for years and still haven't had to use these type tablets or cleaning kits

Same here. I generally don't use products that are more expensive repackages of base chemicals that can be had for pennies. That said our laundry room looks like a chemical storage closet. e.g. I buy boric acid, citric acid, sodium percarbonate, etc raw and just use them as needed.

Probably more of a big deal for dishwashers that see food waste. Cleaning a clothes washer wouldn't hurt. Most stink from a washing machine is due to it being left damp for a period of time, especially front loaders.

I've had the same front loader for 15 years. Never an issue with mold on the gasket. Same detergents. Would never really leave it wide open but instead cracked. Then we moved and the unit sat in the garage for like 2 weeks in January (I live in New England so it's cold). BOOM, moldy gaskets, due to it being closed the entire time. Fortunately it doesn't smell.

You do realize that you are supposed to keep the door of the washer open when it's not in use? That should help with the "stinky."

What does it do? I don't know the difference between soap and detergent and whatever. Could a dishwasher and garbage disposal also benefit from running citric acid through them?

It'll break up mineral deposits and soap build up. A lot of people use more detergent than they actually need to and it gums up the drum. Liquid fabric softeners are something you definitely want to avoid.

Citrus acid is bad https://www.bosch-home.com/us/own...%20machine.
But, of course, they recommend using their own brand that likely costs 3x as much instead.
