As noted in the product description:
"Peak Horsepower" (PHP) is a term used in the wet/dry vacuum industry for consumer comparison purposes. It does not denote the operational horsepower of a wet/dry vacuum but rather the horsepower output of a motor, including the motor's inertial contribution, achieved in laboratory testing. In actual use, motors do not operate at the peak horsepower shown.

I got the 6 gallon a couple weeks ago and it is very meh. Quiet as hell but IMO not strong enough suction to be useful - it was struggling to get dog hair and crumbs out of my jeep's carpet. The form factor on the 6 gallon isn't as utilitarian as I hoped: It's smaller in size than the other stealthsonics but still big enough to be an inconvenience when moving it around (compared to my old 1.5 gallon vac). Also it's too low flow to use with a dust deputy and requires makeshift adapting the smaller hose to the dd . I plan to return it and go with the 12 gallon (which - unlike both the 6 and 9 gallon models - has the 2.5" hose). Hopefully that will get enough suction because the 6 gallon is quieter than even my Dyson stick vac.

The 12 gallon actually has a more powerful motor 5.5HP vs 5HP for the 9 gallon. I'm more of a hobbyist when it comes to wood-working, so I opted for the smaller model. In terms suction power, some YT videos show the suction power is just as good as a normal shop vac.

I have the 12gal stealthsonic connected to an Oneida Dust Deputy Deluxe. Nothing but good things to say about the vacuum - great suction and wayyy quieter than a normal shop vac. My cats agree judging by the fact that they are fine around it when it's running but are terrified by regular vacuums.
When connected to the Dust Deputy, I find that I get more noise from the DD then the vacuum itself. I use the combo for dust collection when sanding on the lathe and hooked up to a bandsaw and it works great for both purposes. Highly recommend spending the extra money on this vs. a regular shopvac.

Exact reason I was looking at this. Dust extraction. I didn't want to enclose it in a cabinet, so hopefully a quiet version will work instead

It's a term used to scam customers into thinking they're getting more power than they are. Period.

Yikes! Check out the reviews on the DeWalt website. Multiple people are reporting the cord shorting out. Glad I saw those reviews. I'm going to find one that doesn't run my house down

Assuming the entire product is UL listed, that seems weird, and maybe they're operating it in unusual conditions?

Is this good for cleaning up the birdseed from my patio, without disturbing my neighbors who are like 15 yards away? I'm getting tired of sweeping it up every night.

Costco has a 8 Gal at $84 with a lot of accessories, rated 5HP.

Might be a better deail with Costco's return policy?

Costco's version is very odd. It doesn't fit DeWalt filters.

Say what you want, I remodel houses.. I got the 9gal and use almost every day! It's the most quiet one I've ever used or seen!which comes in handy when inside a house being run all day And keeps up with the abuse of being used all day sometimes. I use the filter with a bag to catch dust when cutting anything that creates dust and hook to sanders that will be used all day and it doesn't ever slow down..I even hook 4 hoses up to reach my work surface.. I could go on.. it's the best, quietest and easiest one to use!!

Yeah, the reviews on DeWalt's site give the impression that these Stealthsonic vacuums are serious fire hazards. I just find it strange that reviews on Lowes and Amazon don't mention any such problems. You'd think there'd be more consistency in reviews across vendors if these vacuums are safety hazards.

Is 3gal more nice to have?

Does the "Stealthsonic" aspect mean less suction though?
I have the 2 gallon 20v cordless dewalt one and it's pretty much the only one I use outside of the house now. It's just so damn convenient.

If it was just going to be in one place, like for a dust collection system, I'd probably set up one of my larger ones because the wired power and larger size would be advantages rather than disadvantages but they've just been sitting ever since I got the 2 gallon. (DCV580H)

I just got spam email related to this product. Claiming I won free one, and I need to pay a fee for delivery. And does this mean that sickdeals is selling information as we view?
