I have the bigger 800 series of this and I can't say enough positive things about it. It's not the most sturdily built grill in the world but the gravity feed, app control, and convertibility is so great. I've smoked many briskets to close to perfection. Seared and grilled burgers with both direct flame and indirect high heat, made really good pizzas at 700 degrees, and so many other good dishes. I have the rotisserie attachment which is great and the cast iron griddle.

I got mine for 200 at Walmart end of season clearance. Floor model. I probably could've negotiated lower but I was happy with that price. Highly recommend this gravity-fed series.

Oh IDK if I would do it again. I got my 1050 on the price mistake a few yrs back and it is not holding up well. The paint on the lid is peeling off and today I noticed the fire box is rusting a bit, Thing works great but not happy about having to paint after 3yrs. It is covered, keep it clean and rarely run it at high heat.

Can anyone comment if it's good for burgers and sears see they say it heats up to 700 direct flame or indirect I guess. Or is it just more of a smoker?

I got one years ago and love it for smoking. Way more smoke flavor than the pellet grills. It will get up to 700, but be very careful if you use it for smoking too. The leftover grease will start a fire around 400 or so. So maybe use it for one or the other? I use mine only for smoking after trying to deal with the fires on a high temp cook.

I have been using mine strictly for smoking. However, I turn it up as high as possible (675 or so on crappy Royal Oaks Supersized briquette) to sanitize before use, so flare up hasn't been an issue for me.

If you intend to use it for both functions, maybe do a burn off before smoking, to keep grease build up in check.

Ugh! 3rd year trying to grab a deal on a Masterbuilt with no luck, and I'm too cheap to fork out $700+ on one but seriously considering since every brisket outing has been $100+ for us... Damn kids like meat too much! laugh out loud
