I just got one of these recently, it is indeed DRAM-less, Mine uses a Phison E27T controller, basically similar performance to a couple other ones I have like the Teamgroup MP44Q, and the Lexar NM790 which use a MaxioTech DRAM-less controller .I get about 7.2/6.3k r/w according to Crystal Diskmark, and these are fine if you're using it on a gaming rig, DRAM cache doesn't matter much there but if your a content creator or move huge files, you should probably look for a Gen 4 drive that uses a design with DRAM cache with a Phison E18 controller or one of the drives from Samsung, WD, or SK Hynix that use DRAM cache. As far as heat generation, if your motherboard doesn't have NVMe covers with thermal pads, you can get a Thermalight TR-M.2 add on heat sink that works with any 2280 NVMe drive for about 6 bucks, free shipping too if you're prime. I can't speak for the durability because I've only had it for a couple weeks but I paid a little more than this for it and it seems to be a pretty good deal at this price.
NOTE: original post edited after I noticed I had mistyped. apologies, corrected.
dramless, gets hot. cheap and good for bulk storage if you want to. not great for external enclosure cus no dram. good pricing.
Does Dram impact both Read and Write or just Write? For example, if you load bunch of large files (several gigs each) in these drives, can you read from it without any glitches?

Is there a better deal for a 2TB but gen 3 instead? Laptop slot can only accept 3 speeds.
Pretty sure you can just use a Gen 4 drive in a laptop with Gen 3, the max speed might be a bit slower though? Don't see a point in looking for an older drive when the price will probably be about the same anyway.
