I just got one of these recently, it is indeed DRAM-less, Mine uses a Phison E27T controller, basically similar performance to a couple other ones I have like the Teamgroup MP44Q, and the Lexar NM790 which use a MaxioTech DRAM-less controller .I get about 7.2/6.3k r/w according to Crystal Diskmark, and these are fine if you're using it on a gaming rig, DRAM cache doesn't matter much there but if your a content creator or move huge files, you should probably look for a Gen 4 drive that uses a design with DRAM cache with a Phison E18 controller or one of the drives from Samsung, WD, or SK Hynix that use DRAM cache. As far as heat generation, if your motherboard doesn't have NVMe covers with thermal pads, you can get a Thermalight TR-M.2 add on heat sink that works with any 2280 NVMe drive for about 6 bucks, free shipping too if you're prime. I can't speak for the durability because I've only had it for a couple weeks but I paid a little more than this for it and it seems to be a pretty good deal at this price.

Does Dram impact both Read and Write or just Write? For example, if you load bunch of large files (several gigs each) in these drives, can you read from it without any glitches?
It does not affect read speed. Read speed will alway be 7400mb/s.
It impacts the write speed of large files. If you write large files consecutively, for example a couple of hundred G. There will be point when the write speed drops to half or less. Some even drop twice. The more DRAM it has, the longer it can keep its top writing speed. For example, the write speed may drop from 6400 to 3000 after 200G if M2 has DRAM , while it may have write speed drop around 100G if M2 does not have DRAM. This is a artificial example for understanding. YMMV.
Good deal. Too bad I just got another drive (Crucial T500) otherwise I would have picked this one up.
The T500 is a top-tier drive. It uses the Phison E25 controller, Micron TLC NAND flash and has 2048MB of Micron DRAM cache which this drive doesn't have. I'd be happy and not look back if I were you, Good choice.
Is there a better deal for a 2TB but gen 3 instead? Laptop slot can only accept 3 speeds.
You are able to use a Gen 4 drive in a gen 3 system. The system itself will limit the speed of the drive allowing you to use this drive. This is truly a good deal if you're looking for additional storage
I think for PS5 purpose where it's a lot of reading not writing this drive should be fine. Everyone agrees? I was about to get the Seagate FireCuda 530R for $140 which has heatsink installed.

This is a great deal for the money, but here's a list just in case you'd prefer something else: https://pcpartpicker.co
