shake head ARM software compatibility is years away. Laptops are doing it for battery life, but there is no reason for desktops to be limited by emulation shortfalls and slow developer support.

While 16GB is still fine for most gaming, I agree 32GB would be ideal. But RAM is literally the easiest upgrade and often overpriced in prebuilt PCs. There are only 2 ram slots so that could be a $80-100 upgrade down the road, less anything you make selling 2x8GB ddr5 sticks.

Regarding the CPUs, fixes are rolling out, much more an issue for people like me that have been running a 13th gen CPU for years. However, there is still some risk. We life in a hellscape where there are only 2 CPU options, go with AMD if that is your preference.

Arm is still a hit or miss, probably a laptop for that extra battery life but definitely not a gaming desktop

14th gen intel is picky with ram though, so good luck finding a kit that works well with the dell proprietary motherboard. Even if the motherboard has XMP it may crash nonstop with some kits.

So then you're stuck trying to manually set timings to get ram to run full speed and I doubt the dell motherboard even has most of that enabled.
Crucial Pro 5600 2x32 works perfectly out of the box with this build.

One of the cashback sites is offering 10% back on desktops at Dell right now. 10-15% depending on category. SD will delete posts if I name the site.

For those who are seriously thinking about buying, I recommend against this, from my experiences with many different gaming laptops and desktop

1. 4070 is not a very powerful GPU, - Nvidia named it xx70 is really a trickery to sell an inferior product using name recognition , because of the amazing values from previous 1070, 2070, 3070 models - do your own research about 4070 using search terms like "4070 vs 3070 ti" , "4070 vs 3080" and so on
2. 16gb is enough for gaming, at the moment - and it can be upgraded so it not an issue
3. 3070ti, 3080, 3080ti , 4050, 4060 are all much better in terms price to performance ratio
4. If you need something better than 4060 or 3080ti - you should at a minimum buy 4070 super, 4070 ti, or higher
5. 4080 and 4090 are amazing, they can truly replace most gaming desktop - buy them if you have the budget
6. there are reports about instabilities with 13th and 14gen Intel CPUs , in general the problem has been identified and workarounds fixes had been available - unless you are buying this to run some missions critical service.. then it maybe a corner , for gaming - you will be fine
The 4070 is = 3080. the 4070 Super in this Desktop is = 3080Ti It seems like a very reasonable gpu.

Not sure about all that, like none of it. I disagree for the price at this current time.

Is this the 10% up to $1k? I think it says it's only when buying from Dell's small business store. Would be great if it worked throughout the site though. Maybe someone else can confirm.
i tested it on small business
i'll let you know in a week

Do you think AMD stock is underpriced relative to Nvidia? What are their chances of catching up in the AI race?

Yeah if you want to use slow ram you will probably be okay.

Bought this for around the same price point in the Spring of 2024 w stacked discounts. Upgraded the RAM to 32 gb. Uninstalled all of the Alienware bloatware. It's been a great machine for gaming. I'm not running 4K, but playing 1080p games on a 150Hz gaming monitor at high settings. I priced out all of the components to build my own, and this was significantly less money without compromising much performance, etc. I play a few older games but have put hundreds of hours in Fortnite and helldivers 2 at >140 fps consistently. I'm sure benchmarks could be better, but I'm having too much fun to care.

Edit: incorrectly listed resolution. Currently playing both of above games at 2560x1440 (2K) at high quality settings, with no framerate dips below 120 fps.
