The price was right and Amazon's exchange was easy, so I went with it

Is it ant proof? Wondering if it can be used outside
Use cooking spray (like Pam) and spray around the outside edge of your bowl. The ants won't climb through it.
I feed a feral colony of cats here is San Diego and it keeps the ants out of my food bowls.

Looked good for early gift-giving (present), but this made me pause:
Quote :
  1. This uses a countdown timer instead of a clock which means if you want it to feed at a certain time, you have to turn it on at that exact time and set it for 24 hrs. (If you turn it on at 9 pm and want it to feed at 6 am, you would set the timer to 09 hrs, but it does not reset to 24 hrs when the timer goes off, so at 3 pm it will rotate again, then midnight, and so on).
  2. The device cover turns instead of the food bowl/tray so you have to put it in the middle of an open floor if you don't want your pet to have to scratch across the device to eat, like they would be forced to do if it is placed against the wall or on the corner/edge of a counter/table -- Or just reposition everyday.
  3. The food tray does not come out, forcing you to scoop all the food out of the trays if you have to clean it or change batteries.
  4. If you press the power button to turn it off to reset, you can't use the power button to turn it back on for hours. You either have to take all the the food out of the trays and turn it upside down to take the batteries out or try to hold it right side up while you unscrew the battery cover.
  5. Also, the instruction book [cloudfront.net] has no troubleshooting.
I used Home Intuition before (for 5 1/2 yrs) and it was much better. Unfortunately, mine may have reached the end of it's lifespan, and the product seems to be discontinued.

How many of these would I need for 100 cats?
If you want to feed each cat at the same time, you would need 100 of these.

Wow this was very helpful. I was about to buy them for my feral cats but the lack of a clock, no removable tray, and reset process makes it untenable for me.

haha, I tried gifting a neighbor a dog collar for her obnoxious bitch with the constant barking. Instead I got an ultrasonic device for $17 off Walmart that I hid under her shed. Works great, wish I had though of it long ago.. life is much better now. Peace at last.
