The 12700k is normally ~$190 on a good sale (very rarely dipping down to ~$175), and is probably the best value midrange intel cpu. For the record, as a 12th gen part the 12700k is not affected by the intel stability issues. It's also far less power hungry than the i9-12900k and later gen i7's, it can be air cooled effectively and generally won't strain even mediocre motherboard vrms under standard use. The 12700k has decent all around midrange single threaded/gaming performance and slightly higher end multithreaded performance. Unless you've got a gpu with ~rtx 4080 performance, or your use cases involve extremely heavily multithreaded cpu dependent productivity workloads, this cpu should be more than sufficient for anyone looking at components in this price range. The 12700k has an igpu, so you don't need a discrete gpu for display output, and it supports intel quicksync with two multi-format codec engines.
The GIGABYTE B760M DS3H DDR4 is a budget micro atx motherboard, but realistically most people looking at components in this price range don't need more than what it offers. The official specs page can be found here: https://www.gigabyte.co
Since it uses the b760 chipset, overclocking is not supported, not that I think most people want to make their intel cpu run hotter. The vrm is rather poor, but it should be able to handle the 12700k so long as you don't commonly run extremely heavy multithreaded workloads for extended periods of time (and if you do, why on earth are you looking at components in this price range). Wifi is not included on this board, so if you don't have ethernet you'll need to purchase a wifi adapter, decent ones range from $10-$30 depending on the wifi generation they support. This motherboard only supports ddr4, ddr5 is physically incompatible with the slots on this board.
The 16gb (2x8) of ram included with this board is ddr4 3200 cl 16, while nothing special it's at least from a known brand. Don't expect crazy overclocks like good samsung b-die can do, but it should be perfectly fine for normal use. Intel processors do meaningfully benefit from faster ram, but at this price range (where the best deals are always bundles which include ddr4 motherboards) the premium for ddr5 generally isn't worth it.
This bundle at the minimum matches the frontpage $300 microcenter in-store exclusive 12700k bundle in terms of value (and arguably exceeds it if you wouldn't benefit from the better motherboard in the microcenter bundle), and doesn't require you to live within driving distance of a microcenter. It also comes with a free game to sweeten the pot. Overall, if you're looking for a cheap bundle to build a lower-midrange computer, this is a very good deal.

Second, z790 is well worth $40 over b760. You will also be able to sell z790 easier with higher value. If you don't care of mb, go with a basic 610 is good enough.
This deal is good if you need them. It's not good that you can't pass and have to buy even if you don't need. It will be hard to sell these if you regret it.

EDIT
Also the combo comes with free Assassins Creed Shadows appears to be Epic Games exclusive so unlikely a steam code.
Believe it or not, I never had issues playing games on high settings 1080p until right at the end of that. Also, the old processor ended up being free plus cash in my pocket due to all of the old Newgg rebates back then and a class action lawsuit against AMD.
I plan to go with a 14700 next for about $200 in three years.

I have a build ready to put together using the i5. It's still eligible for return, not sure it's worth the hassle. Tia

With regards to the resale value of the motherboards, being a ddr4 board automatically neuters the value, so you'd be hard pressed to recoup an additional $40 years down the line. Most people willing to pay the premium for a z790 board will happily spend a few extra bucks to get a ddr5 board instead. Paying 15% more for a nicer motherboard with the assumption you might recoup part of that cost years down the line only makes sense if you'll actually benefit from the superior motherboard's featureset, it comes down to your personal use cases.
Ultimately, I'm not trying to argue that this bundle is better than all the bundles microcenter has offered in the past, since it isn't. If you live near a microcenter and you budget isn't absurdly tight, I'd recommend waiting for their bundle deals to reach prices near their historic lows again. However, for those who don't live near a microcenter, at $261 this 12700k bundle blows the vast majority of deals we've seen in the past year out of the water.
