Just one episode of the classic was better than the entire Netflix show.

there were 83 episodes of this BS? All I remember as kid watching this on reruns was the same 5-6 episodes. Or at least that's what it melded into in my kid brain

This show is awesome, still on MeTV on Sci Fi Saturdays nights along with the rest of the Irwin Allen classics, amazing stuff you can watch over and over like old school fairy tales. Futuristic hammers spray painted silver and the robot gets turned giant and they go inside. Great crazy plots. I have the B9 (benign?) robot at home, one out to mess with, another in the box. And his cousin Robby the Robot from Forgotten Planet with Leslie Nielsen in a serious role.

Doc - The bad news is that you have a tumor. Patient - Whats the good news? Doc - Its... [amazon.com]

It talks. That guy's voice pretty much defined what robots should sound like, forever. And he told jokes.

The theme song did more to get little kids pumped up for adventure and unknown. Note the quaint musical theme credits of "Johnny Williams". His greatest hit IMO.

Funny how Dr. Smith meant to murder them all in the first episode but became comic relief not long after.

Yep. Great point. I am going to watch them again. They are running on METV. I did hear interviews with Harris and he talked how the character did change.

Best episode is when the robot increases in size and Dr Smith and Will go inside him to save him.

I agree the original was very good for its time but that is no reason to dis the remake — that was an excellent show that was true to the original without being a slavish copy of it.

The same "evolution" (or elimination ) happens to characters that have a one-dimensional annoying or hateful personality in other long running shows —such as the constantly annoying Frank Burns in MASH. Writers soon realize that fans of the show are aggravated by characters that have a shallow, single-sided personality— so those characters either develop a "softer side" or are eliminated from the show by the story line. In Dr Smith's case it was not possible to remove him from the show through the story line because he could not go home or go somewhere else and they couldn't kill him off because that was not allowed in a 1960s children's show..

I loved the robot as well as robbie the robot.
Worst episode that sticks in my head? there were many. But "The Great Vegetable Rebellion" with the carrot guy was really, really bad.
