I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

Bought over 10 of these so far at $15/each, still waiting for the last few to come in. I ordered most in the previous woot batch at $20 and got customer support to refund $5/each. They work good but not the best, excellent for the price.

How did you get them to refund $5/each given that the coupon was single use?

Sorry, but is there a step by step tutorial somewhere about how to get any of these firmware(s) onto the N1301? I used to think I am minimally tech savvy, after doing about an hour of reading...I don't understand anything...

Looking to being able to mesh 2 of these together. Thanks!

Why the other firmware? You can mesh with the Linksys firmware. The exact steps to do so have been stated multiple times in various threads here on SD. It was posted just a bit earlier in this very thread with someone even confirming the technique.

Any opinions from folks that have more knowledge than myself......
I have a nighthawk ac2600 (stable as a rock for me on stock firmware) but considering upgrading to this Linksys LN1301 and add one for a mesh to ensure it covers what I need.
Looks like Linksys LN1301 is triband vs dual mode, 4 core processor vs dual core and able to set up easy mesh for cheap.

Am I missing anything or any thoughts from the router guru folks
I just replaced my Nighthawk AC2600 a few days ago and have been pleased with the upgrade. I was having some issues with both bands dropping out on occasion on the Nighthawk but otherwise had been pleased with it. The problems were rare but annoying. Given the price, I bought one of these Linksys to try out, and the speed increase has been palpable, especially on my phone (S23U) since I can now use WiFi-6.

I did a speedtest on my older laptop (might be N?) and had 460Mbps down and about 180Mbps up with sub-10ms latency on my FIOS 1Gig connection. I should try a test with a better laptop. No issues with two Roku TVs and streaming. Router seems stable, and the smaller footprint is more acceptable to my wife, who never appreciated the pointy antennae.

Biggest headache was transferring my Nest devices, particularly the Detects and wired doorbell. The thermostat was easy since you do it on the device, but the others are bizarrely difficult -- you have to remove them and then re-add them, which also requires a factory reset to remove the previous settings. That, incidentally, also removes any saved video from the doorbell. Hey Google, what does PITA stand for?

Thanks for this, can you link me to the steps?

I've read the threads for this router a few times but only see people saying they're doing it and not the directions. Thanks in advance!

These are the posted steps (copied from another thread). However, my warning is that I tried this three times and it didn't work before I got frustrated and just set up an OpenWRT mesh (which tbh takes considerable tech savviness).

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

Why OpenWRT instead of stock firmware? The reason is not just Mesh. Yes Mesh works with stock firmware if you're patient but a whole range of other things that you may want to do with a quad core + 2GB ram can only be done if we "open things up". Those include things such as VPN, Ad blocking and USB port access. Stock firmware is quite minimal in its features.

Anyone figure out why these are being priced so cheap?

I just got mine and it installed and is working great. I guess it has been awhile, but the last few routers i bought came with generic passwords for setup. Unfortunately a lot of people never change them. I like how each router has a unique initial password.

First router I have with Wifi6, which should play nice with my many smart devices. I know there is probably a solid reason not to do this, but I used my old SSDI name and password for wifi so all my smart devices would automatically connect. It worked. But I did have to do a few things to Alexa Echo to get them voice recognized. Certainly easier than setting all the device wifi again.

I'm having problems with WeMo smart plugs, and Eufy lightbulbs when I set up the new network over the weekend using the Linksys (same name and password). Connection is spotty with the Wemo plugs, even after resetting them. The Eufy bulbs just refuse to connect to the network. All my other devices are fine.

Oh I totally get that, but the person asking said all they wanted to do was mesh -- and they suggested they aren't very tech savvy (so not-mature OpenWRT probably isn't for them).

Thank you so much for the reply. Very well worded and super helpful. I only have Apple devices, roku and hardwired PS, XSX and smart TV so I hope I see the improvement as well. I ordered 2 for me (live alone and have 2 story 3200 sq/ft) and 2 for my family (Apt in subdivision with grandson doing tons of stuff wireless/hardwired) so will upgrade them as well.

Do you mind if I ask if you are running stock software or flashed a custom FW??
Thank you in advance and rep'd

I personally don't care about the wireless functionality of these units. With 2GB ram, quad core 1.4ghz CPU, and USB3.0, they will make great little NAS units. If the wireless turns out to be reliable, that allows even more options as you can drop one anywhere in the house. I plan to use them with OpenWrt as a container platform for backups and media hosting.
These might not be very good as NAS devices. It's about as fast as a Raspberry Pi 3, but the entire system (processor, amplifier subsystems) consumes 10+ watts idle. The Raspberry Pi 3 is just a lot more efficient when idle (like <3W). So you're going to be spending an extra $10/year in wasted electrical cost, so after two years you're breaking even on cost.

I'm also not sure the USB bus on this router is as fast as a raspberry pi. And software support is just way better on a Pi than openwrt for pretty much any usecase (Plex, pihole, nas, torrenting, etc).

Heck, this doesn't have HDMI!

What you want to do is bind those devices MAC address with 2.4GHz via management
