USB is disabled with stock firmware. You don't need serial to flash, you can SSH into it and network copy the files to the device.
You can flash using browser don't even need usb

Anyone running this in a garage without climate control? The garage is a detached garage in the Houston area.. And it gets super hot in the summer.

At $20 I can buy two and avoid buying an outdoor rated unit. Basically, looking to use it as an AP on my existing Asus mesh. I do have a cat 6 run in my garage, but just need the WiFi...

Yup. Just switch it to "bridge mode". That disables firewall/dhcp etc and its just an AP with a built in switch.
The LAN ports are not disabled? Thanks.

Seems inadvisable. The environmental specs in the Linksys Velop MX4000 series user guide [linksys.com] says

Operating Temp. 32° to 104° F (0 to 40° C)
Operating Humidity 10% to 80% relative humidity, non-condensing

Houston is a hot & muggy place in the summer.

Im also using an ASUS mesh and need one (maybe 2) so I can hide and connect a NAS to it. The LAN ports have not been disabled right? I like your outdoor idea so considering it too with the 2nd unit.

Guys, these are great on openwrt, just fyi, no 80mhz+, triband ax @40mhz width, which is perfectly fine, if you need 2gbe, you can lacp 2 ports if you're capable. These things are built for reliability, originally 600$

I thought 80mhz mode was "auto" and then you could manually limit it to 40 or 20?

If you dont beat on it you should be ok. It is rated for 104f. And the cpu is underclocked, and its dynamic. So unless you have it sitting in a sunny window and doing a gigabit solid...

I'm with you. These are horrible. It may be okay with small number of devices and someone that doesn't monitor and look for good performance.
11 to 12 watts sounds about right

Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.
Got my $15 one yesterday.

I cannot find this information, even on Linksys website. Is this ONLY 2.4Ghz or is it both 5 + 2.4? Thanks! (Amazon says 2.4 and doesn't list any other)
