I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

Question to those who use mesh mode in stock firmware.. Does the LED of your child router stay on steady blue all the time? Mine appears to be working but the LED alternates between steady blue and steady red randomly. It doesn't matter if the child router is right next to the parent router or 30ft away.. I wonder if this is normal.
I have one as the main AP and 2 as mesh/child nodes. All 3 lights are steady blue. One useful piece of info someone mentioned is that if you download the linksys app (ios or android) you can optimize the wireless channels. I have been wondering if those people who report intermittent issues are due to interference with other wifi. Perhaps u can try to optimize and see if that makes a difference.

It was so easy to set up the main router and add 2nd one as mesh in the first attempt following the instructions. The speed and coverage is so much better than my older TP-Link Archer A7 AC1750. Converted the Archer A7 into an access point/switch and disabled wifi on it since it had some wired connection and left the existing wired setup as is. Basically, I added the main router between ISP and the existing Archer A7. Setup was a breeze, can't wait for the 3rd one to get delivered. Thank OP and whoever provided the mesh instructions.

Thank you for the tip! I found the root cause. I put the ethernet cable from my switch to LAN port of the parent router. I put it to WAN port and then problem solved. I am using Opnsense box + switch and I thought I had to use LAN port instead of WAN.

Can someone post a method to use this router in AP mode. I currently use PfSense and it acts as DHCP server. In the settings, all I see is "Bridge Mode" with a stock firmware. I am sure I am missing something

Yes, the bridge mode works as AP mode in this router. That's how I am using it under Opnsense.

In Bridge mode, UI is not accessible. How can we then create a mesh once the parent router is in Bridge mode connected to pfSense?

The ap still has an ip and you can access thr webif from a browser. Look up the Mac address on the router and locate it's ip.

Had two from earlier deals and when 3rd from $15 woot deal arrived the inner box didn't even have a sticker. I wonder how many they have remaining I. warehouse. This deal has been popular for weeks.

Real issue for many are bad ISP upload speed and inconsistent latency outside home. I hate FiOS as a company but must admit it's been solid for decades. It can also be $30-$45 for 300 up and down or faster.

I certainly will try that out. Here is what I am planning to do. Please correct me if I am wrong:
1. Connect pfSense output to router's WAN port
2. Assign static IP address in pfSense to a router based on its mac address.
3. Reset router's default admin password to something different
4. Setup Wifi SSID and Password (My router is still in "Router Mode")
7. Put static IP address generated in PfSense in a router so that it can be accesses via Web UI.
5. Disable DHCP (As IP addresses are handed over by PfSense)
6. Now put Router in "Bridge Mode"
7. Reboot Router

Am I missing something here?
I am sure I tried couple of days back and couldn't access UI.
I managed to hard-wired internet when I swiched to internet ports and not using WAN port for pfSense but wifi wasn't working and UI also wasn't accessible

Running two node mesh setup (wired) bridged mode with opnsense as my main router. Mesh with stock works , a little quirky to start but running good so far after 2nd attempt to switching mesh to bridge mode. All stock firmware, will switch to openwrt later when its mature and optimized.

The UI is buggy, encountered same issue first time I switch to bridged mode. The main mesh node was on red LED and UI wasnt accessible. Did factory reset on both nodes and redid the mesh + bridge mode again. Working fine now and I can still access the web UI on bridge mode. A lot of options disappear with bridged mode.

anyone knows if the main node uses a dedicated band to communicate with child nodes for mesh ? As this as a tri band setup, i assume one of the 5ghz is used for the wireless back haul, but not sure and i would like to confirm.

Yes, the 5GHz2 band which is 4x4 is used for the wireless backhaul. Using the CA menu from a desktop browser you can even assign a different SSID for this band if you want to have it dedicated to the backhaul.
