I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

At $20, or even $25, this is a steal; I paid $15 from Woot. I was able to use Mesh thanks to the great instructions from rbtcordell. Using stock firmware, I am getting rock solid 300 mbp/s and sometimes more. I have Verizon FIOS, and it took no tweaking for setup; I unplugged the ethernet cable from my old router, plugged it into the Linksys, and that was it. I tried using just one node, and coverage was decent. Adding the second node as a child made a big difference in speed and coverage. After following rbtcordell's directions, the red flight flashed after I moved the 2nd node to another location in my house. But that blinking red light turned blue after a few minutes, and it's been solid ever since.

Thanks to rbtcordell for the great instructions, and to the various OPs on this great deal. Cheers

For context is 300mbps max for your plan or is that the max you are getting on your wifi client even though your plan is higher like 1G?

late to the game here and have reviewed this thread but wanted to ask for a fresh perspective - can I use this as a repeater with an AT&T network which has me using their modem BGW320? I have two use cases for two devices:

1. Setup as a repeater for the existing SSID to then use to create an Ethernet connection to my survellience system (no Ethernet cable in that room)
2. Connect to LAN via Ethernet cable in upstairs hallway and broadcast this master SSID

is this doable? Appreciate any guidance as networking makes my brain feel smol

I have put all m IoT devices on the guest network. Anyone knows how to add address reservation for these guest devices?

Yes, if you setup the mesh properly, all the nodes will show up in the Connectivity - Basic tab. Also, it will show that all the nodes are up to date.
Thanks that was what I was expecting. I must have done something wrong - I'll try setting it up again.

With wifi 7 being out and about, is there any concern in adopting a wifi 6 device? Won't it then be behind both 7 and 6e? I'm not super knowledgeable about this and am considering a buy but unsure. I got one of those T-Mobile/Asus models that were popular here some years ago and am not sure if I should upgrade to this or maybe something that supports 7, or maybe even just stick with what I have.

I am able to follow the steps and set up one master note and two child note. Thanks wootworship

Why are you setting the IP address? Not needed. Just follow the instructions and it will turn blue.

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

These should be a pretty solid upgrade to the classic T-Mobile AC1900's supporting newer standards and higher speeds. Especially in a mesh setup these should outperform the T-Mobile routers due to being tri-band and having two 5ghz radios. This lets them use one radio for talking to clients and the other for the wireless back-haul. I believe if you read the comments in this thread or previous deal threads there are people who have done that exact upgrade. If I hadn't already upgraded from my AC1900'S to an AX3000 and a pair of AX55's for my setup I probably would have been in for a couple of these instead of just the one $15 woot order.

Obviously, a 6e or 7 router will likely be better but they will also be much more expensive. Even two or three of these for a mesh setup will still be noticeably cheaper than a single 6e or 7 router. For the price it's hard to beat the price of one of these or a couple of these routers to setup a mesh.

As a bonus I suspect that long term these will end up well supported by DD-WRT and OpenWRT. They've already generated a lot of interest there and quickly moved to functional beta support and I'm sure official support is coming soon. That will open up things like using the USB port on these, VLANs and other things like AdBlockHome running on the router. With 2gb of ram and 1gb of flash there's a fair bit of room to support these sorts of extra things.

On the stock firmware, when mesh is set up, should I be seeing all the nodes in the connectivity tab? I only see my master node but it shows "Network Device" as connected in my network map and not a linksys device
I remember that my nodes initially showed up as "Network Device" even though they were already functioning as nodes. After a while (maybe a few hours?) they showed up as nodes instead.

I'm actually now suspecting I got a unit that didn't get the reflash to stock firmware. I bought three - the third connected to the mesh fine but this second one refuses. I get a blinking blue light that never turns purple/pink and when I try a factory reset I get a fast flashing red light. On the others it fades red three times. Once I connected with wired ethernet in it'll take a IP and go solid blue. When I go to that IP I get a very stripped down info/firmware page where all I can do is adjust the IP address. I also see it states firmware version 3.10.2. Looking it up it's for Linksys MX4302, MX4301 which is allegedly the original model numbers. I contacted Woot support to see what they say.

What would be the benefit of not having the 2nd 5GHz band as dedicated backhaul, or why didn't they make the 2nd 5GHz band dedicated by default?
Not sure, but I know that some folks were planning to dedicate the 2nd 5GHz for VR streaming (in addition to the wireless backhaul) since it is 4x4.

It does sound like that unit may have the original HomeWRK firmware. Does it say HomeWRK anywhere on the webpage?

I haven't messed with OpenWrt before and I know that it's way too early for advanced features right now, but I was wondering about the possibility of USB tethering on a device like this. For instance, I've heard that some people have connected a Wi-Fi hotspot to certain routers and been able to essentially use that as an internet source for some hardwired devices that way. Something like that can be good for temporary small office setups, backup internet, etc.

Obviously, that's probably not an option at this point, but does anyone have any thoughts about if that might be a possibility at some point down the road with something like OpenWrt? Or is it likely not even a possibility with a unit like this?

As a brief reference to what I'm talking about, here's a link where someone in the comments (reply #3 and #4) mentions pairing an Inseego m2000 hotspot to an Asus router via USB tethering (it's not much of a discussion, but maybe gives an idea of what I had in mind anyway) …

No, but it does say "Powered by tanaza" at the bottom of the page
