I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

The code only worked for one, further purchases were still $20. Not that it's not worth it to save $5 but if you were figuring on buying a few you'd end up paying the same price.
Woot-ers know from reading other posts that you could buy second unit for $15 by using second adult family member Amazon account to checkout and get additional discount.

Interesting, as counteintuitive as it may seem, in my tests i had consistently faster low band performance. That is despite it being 2x2 as opposed to 4x4 of the high band. I even thought that I might have interference on lower bands from other APs, so I went and turned every other ap off at my house for a cleaner test - still channel 36 outperformed any and all higher band channels on ny linksys mesh. Perhaps I have an odd ball router that's throwing the whole mesh?
In my tests, the further you are away from the LN1301, the better the lower band performs. Generally, the upper should win.

I have Express Forwarding enabled on MX4300 ever since I got the two units (less than a week) and no issues whatsoever.

In fact, I have enabled Express Forwarding on my Linksys MR9000 mesh mode (2 nodes) for over two years and I get almost full bandwidth on my 500 Mbps link, both upload and downloads and the uploads are consistently in the 510 Mbps range.

FWIW, I am super duper impressed with stock firmware on these Linksys units as they are much better than OpenWRT, imho.

PS: I have node steering + client steering enabled as well.

This may be specific to ln1301 but in general, based on forums and reddit, node/client steering is a bad move for velop or mx routers.i will be experimenting with express forwardng.

Gentleman, Gurus~
could you help me out with ipv6 address issue. I am NOT sure if it is a router issue or ISP issue.

I am on xfinity and my ipv6 address will dropped or no longer available after like 30is min. ( OEM firmware ) And if I restart my router, I will able to get ipv6 again.

This does not happen to me when I am on my other router. Does anyone has this issue, or is there anything I can do? thanks

  1. has anyone flashed back to stock after trying openwrt using below command. did you run into issues? did you have to download factory firmware into /tmp first? :
    Back to the OEM firmware:
    • mtd -e kernel -n write FW_MX4300_1.0.4.215382_prod.img kernel
    and:
    • mtd -r -e alt_kernel -n write FW_MX4300_1.0.4.215382_prod.img alt_kernel
  2. can you use luci UI to perform linksys stock firmware update?

Got this from previous woot sale for $15. I decided this was an upgrade from my ASUS AC66U running merlin. The limitation from that router was the processor speed when using OpenVPN. It simply could not handle the amount of traffic with the ASUS chipset.

Okay, now to the MX4300, I immediately flashed on latest beta build of DDWRT and after some configuration and fine tuning, everything is stable. I have a Wireguard VPN tunnel setup for my security cameras and other personal devices, something that my last router could not handle in the past without bogging down. I am amazed by how much traffic it can handle with ease and for the price, this is amazing value. What I was also surprised by was the size of this thing, this thing is the size of a brick.

Can anyone please check what input voltage range is available on the power adapter of the ln1301? Up to 110-120 volts, or actually to 220+ volts?

There is now way to use these as mesh nodes with the FIOS router as the parent. You'd need to use one of these as the parent node for others to mesh with it. Mesh implementations are all pretty much vendor specific.

I'm not in front of the unit so I can't give you the exact range, but the power adapter supports international voltages.

Can I use them as extenders or access points in any way if I have ethernet ports throughout the house?

Thanks for sharing this, I eventually want to have a setup similar to yours. I currently have a bunch of security cameras and door/window sensors all running off of 3rd party servers. I would like to install Home Assistant and whatever other software is required to run this all locally. Yes, I realize I will probably need to replace the cameras and sensors. Anyways, I got a bunch of these LN1301's to "spread the load" (not everything has to be running on the same router).

Yeah. That is possible even with the stock firmware but it's a bit more manual to setup than the mesh setup. You could use one of these as your main router and then use wired backhaul with the mesh setup which should work well. That may be tricky if you've got TV service from Fios too.

Would appreciate much if you could check that exactly, as on ebay I can either find linksys adapters with only up to 110-120 volts, while looking for the confirmation to be up to 220-240 also.

Please keep us posted on your findings. I have kept the default settings and haven't noticed any issues, though currently I am the only one in the household that is using this mesh. I plan to switch my family members over soon and we'll see how things hold up to my wife's heavy streaming LOL.
